Since it debuted in 1964, the Ford Mustang has thrived on its reputation as a dream car for thrill-seeking drivers everywhere. Today that reputation is very much intact thanks to the 2019 Ford Mustang, which utilizes new features and technologies to stand alongside the most impressive sports coupes ever built.
A faster horse
The 2019 Ford Mustang GT has the distinction of being the quickest of its kind of the sports car line, which is impressive enough given the pony car’s 54-year heritage. This is thanks to the available 10-speed SelectShift® transmission and available GT Performance Package Level 2, which adds among other things a TORSEN® limited-slip differential, unique front springs and MagneRide® Damping System with track-ready calibration. With Drag Mode selected, the 2019 Mustang GT can go from 0-60 mph in under four seconds.
If you prefer the more hands-on feel of the six-speed manual transmission, the 2019 Ford Mustang GT adds rev-matching as part of its available Performance Package. This feature predicts your shifts and matches engine rpm accordingly to create a smoother and more balanced ride that allows you to take full advantage of the Mustang GT’s 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.
No. 1 with a BULLITT
2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the film “Bullitt,” which is perhaps best known for a lengthy chase scene in which Steve McQueen pilots a 1964 Mustang GT through the streets of San Francisco. To honor that film’s legacy and its importance to the legacy of the Mustang, Ford is releasing a limited-edition 2019 Mustang BULLITT. In addition to a distinctive Dark Highland Green exterior option, the Mustang BULLITT boasts a number of aesthetic cues inspired by the film’s hero car, including a cue-ball shift knob and unique BULLITT badging.
Where the 2019 Ford Mustang BULLITT really shines is in its exhilarating display of power. With a performance open air intake, the Mustang Shelby GT350’s intake manifold and recalibrated powertrain control module, the Mustang BULLITT’s 5.0-liter V8 delivers 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, increasing the top speed of the Mustang GT by 8 mph to 163 mph. Whether you drive in San Francisco or in Iowa, that’s a lot of power.
Be a better neighbor
The 2019 Ford Mustang EcoBoost® delivers 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, making it an impressive performer in its own right. That performance is even more inspired with the EcoBoost® Performance Package, which adds a 3.55 TORSEN® limited-slip differential and larger brake rotors with four-piston fixed calipers.
While the 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine’s growl may be excitable in the afternoon hours, it’s less enjoyable for your neighbors when heading out to work in the morning. With newly available, class-exclusive active valve performance exhaust, the Mustang EcoBoost® can be set to Quiet Start mode to bring that roar down to a whisper. Once the sun is high in the sky and you’re sure everyone is awake, you can select the Sport setting to announce your arrival or departure as you see fit.
The 2019 Ford Mustang doesn’t just live up to a half-century legacy: It builds on it, delivering a more impressive pony car bred specifically for performance enthusiasts.
