Serious competition! Four schooners round the mark head-to-head during the Great Schooner Race.

From a “Glam Gam” to Parades of Sails and the opportunity to take a tour of one of the historic windjammers, the Maine Windjammer Association offers several opportunities to mix and mingle with the captains and guests on other boats. Whether on the Rockland Breakwater during the Parade of Sail or on the shore at WoodenBoat School, be sure to bring the camera because we promise a colorful photo op for each of these events.


Monday, June 11, 2018 - Schooner Gam

Defined as a social meeting, visit or the like, as between whaling vessels at sea, the annual Maine Windjammer Schooner Gam is the perfect way to kick off the 2018 summer season. This fleet rendezvous is determined each year by the weather of the day, but always includes live music and the traditional grog toast to a successful sailing season. Raft up next to fellow historic windjammers and tour other boats of the fleet.

Week of June 25th - Windjammer Days

Take part in a grand sail parade on June 27th through picturesque Boothbay Harbor. Two of the Maine Windjammers join many other boats coming from up and down the coast to participate in this exciting early-summer event. Additional onshore activities include music, games and fireworks.

July 6, 2018 - Great Schooner Race

The Maine Windjammer fleet is joined by other tall ships for an exciting race from Islesboro to Rockland, and you get to observe the fun up-close-and-personal. This year marks the 42nd anniversary of the Great Schooner Race, North America’s largest annual gathering of tall ships. Pre-race festivities include fireworks and small boat races, then after the race enjoy a festive Awards Ceremony complete with a fabulous dessert buffet and live music. It’s a full day of exhilarating racing, sailing and photo opportunities.

July 13, 2018 - Maine Windjammer Parade (2:00 - 4:00 pm)

Whether you’re on a boat or observing from the Rockland Breakwater, this Parade of Sails features the Maine Windjammer Fleet as they sail past the mile-long Rockland Breakwater under full sail. Be sure to have the camera ready for stunning, close-ups.

Several times throughout the sailing season, the entire fleet of Maine windjammers “raft up” to offer tours and tales.

August 31-Sept. 2, 2018 - Camden Windjammer Festival

The Maine Windjammer fleet rafts up in Camden Harbor for the Camden Windjammer Festival. Festivities include a parade of sail, flag-raising ceremonies, live music and fireworks. A crew and guest talent show tops off the fun, along with tours of the windjammers at the dock.

Tuesday, September 11, 2018 - WoodenBoat Sail-In

The final fall gathering of the fleet takes place in Brooklin, Maine, headquarters of WoodenBoat Magazine and WoodenBoat School. Now in its 32nd year, this gathering of the fleet includes the Maine Windjammer’s famous mussel chow down, live steel drum tunes and tours of a harbor full of historic schooners.
