Vehicle Details: 2013 Toyota Avalon Luxury
All-new design elevates the luxury value of this American-made midsize sedan

For nearly 20 years, the five-passenger Toyota Avalon has quietly gone about its business, delivering outstanding reliability, luxury and value to astute buyers in search of the ultimate luxury car value. As proof of its ability to retain value, Kelley Blue Book ( recently gave the 2013 Avalon the “Best Resale Value” award in its class. All-new for 2013 and on sale now here at McGeorge Toyota Scion in Henrico, Virginia, the Toyota Avalon has undergone a remarkable evolution, boasting an entirely new interior and exterior profile that exudes quality, craftsmanship and style.
With an elegant and athletic exterior profile, improved efficiency and performance and industry-leading technology, the 2013 Avalon sets in a new standard in the class for roominess, luxury and comfort. And, as a bonus, all of the Avalon was designed, developed and manufactured right here in the United States.
The 2013 Toyota Avalon (MSRP $30,990) offers two powertrains: a 3.5-liter V6 with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and the popular Hybrid Synergy Drive combining a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two high-output electric motors.
The gasoline V6 delivers an optimal balance of power and fuel efficiency, producing 268 hp and 248 lb/ft of torque through the front wheels, good enough for a brisk zero-to-60 sprint in less than seven seconds. A buttery smooth six-speed automatic transmission can be manually controlled either through the Sport mode shifter or available steering wheel paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience. Drivers can select between “Eco,” “Normal” and “Sport” drive modes, and can expect an EPA-estimated 31 mpg highway when in “Eco” mode.
For those who want a luxury sedan with even greater efficiency – to the tune of 40 mpg combined – there’s no better choice than the 2013 Avalon Hybrid with Hybrid Synergy Drive. Delivering a total system output of 200 hp, the Avalon Hybrid can accelerate from zero to 60 in a mere eight seconds, offering an unbeatable combination of fuel economy and performance.
And unlike many other luxury sedans with hybrid drivetrains, the Avalon Hybrid benefits from a weight management system that makes it only 124 pounds heavier than the gasoline model. This equates to improved handling and a dynamic driving sensation non-existent with larger, heavier hybrid-powered luxury sedans.
A new unibody structure improves overall rigidity by 12 percent and rear rigidity by 23 percent. With this new body and a revised suspension system, the 2013 Toyota Avalon negotiates corners with ease and control. In their analysis of seven published reviews and test drives, the editors at U.S. News wrote, “While the Avalon still has a comfort-tuned ride, test drivers say that its controlled handling makes the 2013 Avalon much more enjoyable to drive.”
Compared to the 2012 Avalon, the new Avalon features more compact exterior dimensions and increased interior comfort. The U.S. News review also noted, “Its spacious back seat is regarded as one of the most comfortable in the class.” The new Avalon also features industry-first Quadrabeam headlamps for superior lighting performance. Sleek, sculpted rear LED taillamps add to the luxurious and upscale qualities of the Avalon.
Thanks to its sleek, windswept profile, the Avalon has an exceptionally low, 0.28 coefficient of drag that improves fuel efficiency and also reduces interior cabin noise at freeway speeds. In addition to boasting one of the quietest interiors in its class, the 2013 Avalon features a premium grade interior with hand-sewn dash panels, soft-touch materials and attractive smoke chrome trim that add to its visual appeal.
Few vehicles are better suited for long road trips than the Toyota Avalon. Thanks to its perfectly bolstered and cushioned seats with available fine-grade leather upholstery, a seat-cushion extender and 10-way power adjustments, sitting in the Avalon is as comfortable as sitting on your favorite couch. Even better, the Avalon also offers front seat heaters and ventilation to keep you comfortable year-round. In the Avalon, even rear-seat passengers can enjoy heated seats.
At night, LED ambient lighting creates a warm, inviting and sophisticated atmosphere in the Avalon cabin that is enhanced by little details like an eBin that stores smartphones and mobile devices out of sight while they charge. Rear-seat passengers benefit from a detachable sliding armrest with a storage box that features a 12-volt DC outlet.
Being the flagship Toyota sedan, the 2013 Avalon is outfitted with some of the most advanced technology in its class. Take for instance the three-zone climate control system, and the Display Audio System with 6.1-inch touch-screen that integrates Bluetooth Hands-Free capability, available rear camera display, iPod control and HD Radio.  The Avalon Limited features a premium hard disk drive navigation system with split-screen capability and voice-controlled search.
A premium 11-speaker JBL Synthesis 7.1 channel matrix sound system is available, and thanks to the extremely quiet interior of the Avalon, it makes for an incredible aural experience. The popular Toyota Entune multimedia system is featured on the Avalon, integrating with smartphones to deliver real-time information and streaming audio through websites like Pandora.
It would take much more space to list all the details, refinements and luxury features of the redesigned 2013 Toyota Avalon. The only way to really appreciate the significance of this value-packed midsize luxury sedan is to drive one. Stop in today to get behind the wheel and experience the all-new Avalon.
