Lexus RC F GT3 Dominates at Road Atlanta
Lexus took home two placing finishes at the 2017 season-finale race

Lexus has made a name for itself in the racing world this year, with the Lexus RC F GT3 earning several recognitions during the 2017 season.

On Oct. 7, the RC F GT3 joined many other vehicles from various brands on the track for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race in Atlanta, the last race of the season. Two Lexus RC F GT3s—No. 14 and No. 15—pulled up to the starting line.

No. 14 had three rotating drivers behind the wheel: Robert Alon, Sage Karam and Ian James. The vehicle held its ground throughout most of the race. However, about two hours from the finish line, No. 14 was involved in an accident with Robert Alon behind the wheel that resulted in a 14th place finish. Alon was not seriously injured in the crash.

“I had a lot of fun driving the RC F GT3 today,” said driver Sage Karam. “Led some laps and had some good smart hard racing today. Really, really close out there with a couple of guys. It was probably one of the most fun times I’ve had driving the Lexus for sure.”

The second Lexus vehicle, No. 15, participated in the Petit Le Mans endurance event. This event was a 10-hour race with three rotating drivers: Austin Cindric, Jack Hawksworth and Scott Pruett. They kept to the front of the crowd at the beginning of the race, but hit a few snags along the way. No. 15 received a penalty during the race for an improper pass; later in the race, the car was damaged, causing it to come in eighth place.

“The guys did an awesome job,” said driver Jack Hawksworth. “Never gave up, and got the car back together. We got the finish tonight.”

The Lexus RC F GT3 has had quite the racing season this year. In fact, the Lexus earned two top-five finishes during the season and 13 top 10 finishes. With Hawksworth behind the wheel, No. 15 also finished the year off with the two fastest laps of the season.

The 2017 season is officially over with the completion of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. However, the hiatus won’t last too long. The 2018 season starts back up on Jan. 27 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
