The 2019 Volvo S60, the first Volvo model to be manufactured in the U.S., is currently being produced for customers at Volvo Cars’ new South Carolina manufacturing plant located in the town of Ridgeville.
By setting down manufacturing-roots in the U.S., Volvo Cars has added to its global manufacturing footprint. Approximately 1,600 acres house the South Carolina manufacturing plant that features a vehicle processing center, paint shop, final assembly facility, office building, and body shop. Construction began in 2015 for the South Carolina plant, which has plans to include Volvo Cars University. Also in the future for the U.S. plant is the manufacturing of the XC90 SUV in 2021.
“We’re proud to launch Volvo’s First American-made car,” said Jeff Moore, vice president, manufacturing, Americas. “Our team is dedicated to delivering the exceptional craftsmanship, Scandinavian design and dynamic feel that defines the Volvo brand.”
The 2019 Volvo S60 is available at three trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription. Each trim is available with a variety of powertrain options, including the 400-hp T8 Twin-Engine Plug-In Hybrid with e-AWD.
“The active chassis and drive modes deliver excellent control and an engaged performance that makes this a driver’s car,” said Henrik Green, senior vice president for research and development at Volvo Cars. “It also brings the acclaimed technology from our 90 Series and other 60 Series cars into this segment, making it one of the best sports sedans on the market.”
Modern drivers demand reliable connectivity features to stay connected and entertained on the go. The 2019 S60 delivers with the Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system. Smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ as well as 4G access, is easily attainable in the S60. Navigation details, entertainment settings and car information are brilliantly displayed and manipulated on the system’s tablet-like 9” Sensus Touchscreen display.
Equipped with City Safety with Autobrake technology, the 2019 S60 helps keep you and your family safe on the road by alerting you to large animals, cyclists and pedestrians in your path. If a collision is unavoidable, the innovative system will help to minimize the impact by activating the brakes.
The sports sedan also features systems including Oncoming Lane Mitigation and Run-off Road Mitigation to help you with steering and maintaining control. Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake is available to give you a greater perspective of objects around you, helping to safeguard every journey.
The midsize luxury sedan will be available globally in spring 2019 after hitting U.S. dealerships at the close of 2018.
