For 2019, the popular Jeep® Cherokee small crossover is getting a handful of major changes, including a facelift and a new engine designed to give it an additional edge in one of the most intensely competitive segments of the auto industry.
The 2019 Jeep® Cherokee boasts a new facade that does away with the polarizing styling of the previous model. The separated lighting is gone, with daytime running lights now fully integrated within the standard LED headlights, and the angle of the seven-slat grille has been reworked to be more pleasing to the eye. There are lots of new exterior and interior parts as well: The hands-free liftgate is made of a lighter composite, the hood is made out of aluminum, the fuel filling system is now capless, the bumpers are restyled and the wheels come in five different variants. Jeep® has also upped the quality of the dash and door panel materials and increased the size of the cargo floor, setting a new benchmark for craftsmanship and utility.
New for the 2019 Jeep® Cherokee is a range-topping, 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that uses a twin-scroll turbocharger to produce 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, giving the crossover more grunt and responsiveness than ever before. What’s more, Jeep® found a way to shave 150 pounds off the body and chassis, which has helped cancel out the added weight from the plethora of new standard features and thus maintains the Cherokee’s impressive performance. Two other engines are also offered, including a 3.2-liter V6, and all are paired with a slick nine-speed automatic transmission. A variety of traction-enhancing features and special driving modes keep the Cherokee on top when it comes to off-road capability.
The 2019 Jeep® Cherokee comes with a number of standard features normally reserved as options on rival models. The base Cherokee Latitude receives an upgraded 7.0-inch Uconnect® 4 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ as well as three USB ports, BLUETOOTH® connectivity, Hill Start Assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection. If you opt for the 4x4 model, the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System is included as well.
Well-equipped at every trim level and designed with the on- and off-road capability that only Jeep® vehicles are known for, the 2019 Cherokee continues to be the ideal vehicle for business or pleasure.
