When Dodge created an SUV and called it the Journey, it wasn’t just tossing an arbitrary name out there — the 2018 Journey takes after its name as a vehicle well-suited for long trips.
Long trips, long range
One of the most impressive aspects of the Dodge Journey is not something that is easily seen as it drives by. Instead, it is best seen from inside the vehicle as it drives by a gas station. And another. And another.
The 2018 Dodge Journey can roll for over 500 miles on the highway using a single tank of gas. This is thanks to an estimated 25 mpg on the highway with a standard 20.5-gallon fuel tank in the front-wheel drive model, and 24 mpg on the highway with an available 21.1-gallon tank in all-wheel drive models.*
The Journey’s range is partly due to its impressive pair of engine options. At the base level, the Journey is equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. This is connected to a four-speed automatic transmission to deliver efficiency.
Above that, the Journey can be equipped with the company’s award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, which greatly increases the power to 283 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine, however, produces the same highway efficiency numbers as the four-cylinder in front-wheel drive models thanks to the accompanying six-speed automatic transmission with Auto Stick. This powertrain gives the Journey a maximum available towing weight of 2,500 pounds.
The powertrain isn’t the only aspect of the Journey that suits it to long road trips. Inside, it features three rows of seats for a total passenger capacity of seven people. Both rear rows of seating can be folded to increase storage space to up to 67.6 cubic feet, and the floor features storage compartments both in the very rear and in the second row.
More than space, though, the Journey offers a wide array of available technology features. These include a Wi-Fi hotspot, power outlets, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, and even a 9-inch screen that flips down from the overhead console for rear-seat entertainment.
In the 2018 Journey, Dodge created a vehicle with masterful traveling capabilities and a perfectly appropriate name.
