Vehicle Profile: 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
There is no challenging the Demon

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon makes no attempt to appeal to your grown-up, sophisticated self. There is no pretense of maturity or seriousness with a car that dares to name itself “Demon,” the kind of exaggerated moniker you might expect a young teenager to use while excitedly attempting to describe the coolest, meanest thing they’ve ever seen.

And that’s exactly what the Challenger SRT Demon aims to do: to reduce you to a child-like state of intense wonder and terror as you step on the throttle, hear the roar of the engine and the whining of the supercharger explode in a fury about you. Driving the Demon transports you back to a time when you had no responsibilities and the future still lay ahead. Then, a quarter mile and 9.65 seconds later, it’s over.

Not just an upgraded Hellcat engine

At first glance, it may be tempting to call the engine under the hood of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon a mere upgrade to that of the 707-horsepower Hellcat. But while the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® V8 does share its architecture, the Demon’s engine features 25 major component upgrades, including a larger supercharger, higher RPM limit and increased boost pressure.

The result is up to 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque, making the Demon the most powerful production car in existence. The engine must take in so much air to produce those numbers that the Demon also features the largest functional hood scoop of any production car.

Made for the drag strip

One thing the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon takes more seriously than anything else is drag racing. It comes factory-equipped with drag radial tires and boasts a Torque Reserve Launch System, which prefills the supercharger and tweaks the engine to help reduce launch times. It also comes with a transbrake that works in concert with the Torque Reserve Launch System to prevent the car from moving before you are ready. When you are, it takes off like a bullet. In fact, Dodge is so confident that people will bring this car to the strip that it offers a variety of packages and options designed with drag racing in mind, including dual “air-catcher” headlamps that help feed even more air into the engine to get it the cooling it needs.

With its 840 horsepower and countless performance-enhancing technologies, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is the last car you will want to see pull up alongside you at the drag strip.
