Buick describes the 2018 Encore as a compact luxury SUV — in other words, the perfect vehicle for urban roads.
City driving can be a pain, as small spaces and high traffic density come together to block access for many vehicles. However, some urban motorists require the advantages offered by larger vehicles. That’s where the 2018 Buick Encore comes in. With an overall length of 168.41 inches, the Encore rides on a compact footprint that gives it perfect maneuverability for the crowded city.
The Encore boasts a cabin filled with all of the luxury amenities of larger, more suburb-oriented vehicles. For example, the Encore boasts QuietTuning technology with Active Noise Cancellation to create a more serene driving environment. It also comes with Keyless Open and Start as standard equipment, allowing drivers to lock and unlock the vehicle and start the engine without taking the key fob out of their pocket.
This luxuriousness only increases as you move up the trim level range. You’ll find features like a remote starter system, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather-appointed heated seats and an automatically-dimming rearview mirror. A suite of active safety systems like Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Front and Rear Park Assist and Forward Collision Alert give you peace of mind behind the wheel.
The Encore’s powertrain is optimized for city use, thanks to the choice of two 1.4-liter engines.
The first of these engines is a turbocharged 1.4-liter Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) four-cylinder, which produces 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. The second engine is also a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, but is a Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) engine rather than DOHC engine. It makes use of Start-Stop technology, which automatically shuts off the engine when the Encore comes to a stop, and starts it back up again when the brakes are released to save fuel. These efficient engines mean that the Encore can achieve up to 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.*
Combining the best qualities of a small urban vehicle and a larger sport utility vehicle, the 2018 Buick Encore is a ready to conquer the city in comfort.
