The 2017 GMC Acadia is widely considered to be a strong mid-size SUV. However, the question remains: just what is the Acadia capable of?
Under the hood
The 2017 GMC Acadia comes with a choice of two engines under the hood.
The first engine is a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing. This base engine offers 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque, and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that routes that power to either the front wheels or all of them at once, depending on the selected drivetrain configuration.
The second, larger engine is a 3.6-liter V6 engine, also featuring double overhead camshafts and variable valve timing. This upgraded engine greatly increases the Acadia’s power, delivering 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. It also uses a six-speed transmission and either a front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain.
Economy and range
The 2.5-liter engine achieves 21 mpg in the city* regardless of configuration, but delivers 26 mpg highway* with front-wheel drive and 25 mpg with all-wheel drive.*
The larger engine delivers the same fuel economy whether paired with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.*
To calculate the Acadia’s range, you need only look to the fuel tank capacity, which is 19 gallons on front-wheel drive models and 22 gallons on all-wheel drive models. This gives the Acadia a maximum range between 494 and 550 miles, depending on the chosen powertrain.
On the inside, the 2017 GMC Acadia comes with three rows of seating for a maximum total passenger capacity of seven people. Regardless of the number of passengers, the Acadia features a maximum of 79 cubic feet of cargo volume when all of its seats are folded, 41.7 cubic feet of cargo space when the second row is raised and 12.8 cubic feet when all of seats are placed up.
Even when inspecting the basic numbers, the GMC Acadia is undoubtedly a highly capable SUV.
