Youth Encounter Needs You!
Men Wanted for International Team Ministry
Gary Korpi
Greetings from the
Recruitment Department. We have reached the end of team training and have
commissioned six National Captive Free Teams, five International Teams, and one
Community Based Team to carry out Youth Encounter’s mission of strengthening
the church through the Christian faith, ministry, and leadership of its
youth.
We still need your help! We could really use additional men on two of our International Ministry teams, one for Kindred going to Peru and Bolivia,
and one for Cross Fire going to Ghana
and Nigeria. In addition, we would like to place a Community Based team in
Stillwater, MN and need people who might be interested in doing ministry in
this community through outreach to the young adult community in the area. Is God calling you to one of these
teams?

Ministry Teams of the Future!
2007-08 Teams Unveiled
Gary Korpi
Youth Encounter is excited
to announce the full roll-out of the Community
Based Ministry Team model for 2007-08. In 2006-07, we are piloting the Community
Based Team model by installing the team Lifeline
at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, South Dakota. A Community Based Team
spends the entire team year working and ministering in and through a single
congregation. Beginning the fall of 2007, we plan on placing these types of teams
in at least six and possibly ten congregations
in the U.S.
In addition to the
Community Based Teams, we have decided to continue the Captive Free tradition. There are several factors that went in to
our making this decision. We desire to continue serving churches who have
valued having Captive Free come to their church. Teams also play a great role
at Youth Encounter Events such as Quakes and Zones, as well as in the
recruiting process. We will commission four
Captive Free teams in the fall of 2007.

Youth Encounter Looking For Future Leaders
We Need Your Help!
Gary Korpi
Youth Encounter’s mission
is to strengthen the church through the Christian faith, ministry, and
leadership of its youth. We do this by providing life-changing faith
experiences, ministry experiences, and leadership experiences.
Each year Youth Encounter
sends out teams of young people on national and international ministry teams,
mission and service teams. Each person on team is challenged to grow in faith
and leadership as they are engaged in doing ministry as leaders. Over the 40
years of Youth Encounter’s history, nearly 1400 young adults have served; statistics
show that 70% of those who serve with Youth Encounter go on to become
professional church leaders.
With the development of
the Community Based Ministry Team comes a need for more and more ministry-minded
young people. Would you consider helping us by taking on one of the following
volunteer recruitment positions?

Host a Team For a Year!
Want To Be a 2007-08 Host Site?
Lisa Rykken Kastler
It’s been said that the
only constant in life is change. Here at Youth Encounter, we have fully
embraced this reality and the opportunities it presents, and so we are now working
on a new community based team model with teams staying in a congregation for 9
to 12 months for the 2007-2008 program year.
An important part of
having a team stay in a community for an extended period of time is finding the
right host sites. We are currently looking for sites throughout the United
States, with people who are as excited about Community Based Ministry Team
possibilities as we are and would like their site to be considered for our new
venture in ministry.

Leaving the Nest
Commissioning the 2006-07 Teamers
Kate Tripoli
Twelve teams, with
sixty-eight team members, traveling to seven countries and forty-eight states,
for twelve months of ministry, equals one great night at Commissioning! On
Friday, September 15, Youth Encounter commissioned an enthusiastic and talented
group of young men and women for the 2006-07 ministry year. Friends, family,
staff, and alumni gathered at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina, Minnesota
for an evening of great music and worship. Staff members and teamers spoke of
how excited they were to see this new group develop their ministry skills and
their relationships with God over the coming year.
