It's Time to Turn in That Team Application!
Get Yours In Before March 31
Jeff Rowdon
Did you know that Youth Encounter sends out 12
teams of young adults each year that travel to churches, schools, nursing
homes, youth events, and camps to share about the amazing grace that is found
in Jesus?! Did you know they do it by performing music, skits and puppet
shows, but most importantly by the way they love people?! I know it sounds
too good to be true, but we do.
Each August about 80 people gather in Minneapolis
to begin a month of training to equip them for this transforming
ministry. Seven of those teams are called Captive Free, and they serve in
different regions of the U.S. for the year. We also have five
International Teams that spend time both in the U.S. and in different parts of
the world sharing God’s amazing story of love and life in Jesus. This
coming year they will go to places like West Africa, Papua New Guinea,
Australia, Denmark, and South America.
So why am I telling you about these
teams? Great question! I want everyone to know about our Team
Ministry because we are recruiting right now for our 2006-07 Teams.

Faith Like a Child
Watching God Work at Events
Jennifer Miller
“At that
time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom
of heaven?” He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell
you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the
kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in
the kingdom of heaven.”–Matthew 18:1-4
Senior high youth at a recent
Zone asked their adult leaders if they could skip dinner in order to continue
working at the on-site service project with Feed My Starving Children so that
more starving kids throughout the world would be able to eat.
At one of this year’s
Quakes, a junior high youth, when asked by a friend why she didn’t buy any ice
cream from the cash concession, replied that she wanted to make sure she had
money for the offering on Sunday.

We Walk in the Power of God
Read Excerpts From Watermark Germany's Online Journal
Watermark Germany
It has been a very busy and exhausting day. The most interesting and
very new thing for us as a team was to experience being split up in two main
teams going to two different schools. Team No. 1 was Ben, Melissa and me. Team
No.2 was Bryan, Meghan, Cristina and Jim. I can only tell for our time in the
school in Zeulenroda that it was pretty good and fun. We enjoyed our time
together and our time with the kids in class. Tough questions like "Do you
like Pres. Bush?" and things were asked. But also team things and God came
up in their questions. I think what I liked a lot, too, was that not just the
students but also the teacher enjoyed having us there and listening to our
songs and what we had to say to the questions that had been asked.

We Rocked the House with God's Message
Read Excerpts From Captive Free North Central's Online Journal
Captive Free North Central
Staying in a host home with
all seven of us is always a trip. God blesses us with these amazing host homes
every once in a while, and it is always an experience. On Friday, we arrived in
Minot, North Dakota and, after a brief trip to Goodwill, we found ourselves at
a home with enough beds and food for us all. Wilma, our host mother, was truly
a giving person. She prepared a marvelous dinner and allowed us to have a
little space of our own. We even created our own "home theater." In
these home stays, we as a team are forced to grow. Amazingly enough, it can
feel as though we don't spend enough time with other teammates; these host
homes help us to remember, one, we really do like each other, and two, why it
is a good idea to have time apart. I really love my team, but as with any
relationship, time apart is essential. I thank God for these reminders.

Storm-Weathered Faith
Unanswered Questions vs. Unquestioned Answers
Tiger McLuen
Jim was home after his
freshman year at college when he stopped by the church to drop a bomb on his
former youth leader. “I don’t go to church anymore because I’m not sure I really
believe all that stuff.” Jim’s tone was defiant, nonchalant, self-consciously independent.
“I mean, I loved youth group, but it was just something I did in high school,
kinda like prom and the homecoming dance.” He shuffled his feet and paused. The
youth leader cleared his throat, searched for a response, tried to get past
those four words: “Just something I did…”
Jim’s words indicted his
youth group experience--something his youth leader, my friend, thought had
changed his life forever. Those four words sucked the life out of my friend. They
talked a little more, but the conversation went nowhere. Jim found an excuse to
leave. In the aftermath, my friend tried to stop the accusing thoughts swimming
in his head. But he couldn’t avoid the questions: This kid was an active,
positive leader in the group--what happened? What did I miss? Why was it so
easy for Jim to topple what took years to build in him?
