Construction Zones Kick Off in Kansas City
"The Youth Blew Us Away"
Danielle Tietjen
God is amazing! Youth Encounter experienced its first
Construction Zone this month in Kansas City, and it was a blast! Three hundred ten youth showed up wanting to
grow in their faith, experience powerful worship, and serve the world by
packaging food for the hungry. Youth
Encounter is partnering with Feed My Starving
Children this year to provide a hands-on servant experience for Zone
attendees. The goal this weekend for
meals packaged was 45,000, and the youth blew us away by packaging over
62,000! Praise God for what will be
done this year.

Welcome Christmas with Peder Eide!
Peder Celebrates a New Album and a New Daughter
Youth Encounter
Youth Encounter
has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Peder Eide, an independent
Christian singer/songwriter from Minnesota.
When we last spoke with him, he was about to release his eighth album, What a Ride, which featured “The Reason
We Live,” a theme song for the 2003 ELCA National Youth Gathering. After the success of What a Ride, Peder is about to begin his “Evening in December” tour
to celebrate his newly released Christmas album, Christmas: Come On In.
Peder was kind enough to take some time out of his busy touring schedule
to catch up with Youth Encounter.
YE: Congratulations on the great reception of What a Ride!
Peder: Thank you, it has been a very successful album. Many people have said it was one of the
strongest records I’ve made, and I’ve also heard from several fans how excited
they are to hear songs from the album featured on their local Christian radio
station. As an independent artist, I am
quite pleased with that, of course. But
as excited as I may be about a record, if people aren’t finding it useful or
helpful, it’s really not complete. If
it isn’t helping people grow in their relationship with Jesus, it’s just
another record.

This Huge Gift That Life Is
Read Excerpts from the Team's Online Journal
New Vision
This year has already been
a time of new faces, places and experiences. During our five weeks of training
during August and September, I learned so much more about God, what I believe
to be true about Him, and how to talk about that with other people. I'm not
really sure how to start sharing with you all what's on my heart to say, so
here I go. During the last fifteen months of my life, the Lord has most
certainly been seizing the Provider role in my life and showing me time and
again how much He cares about every aspect of my life.
At times I can get too
wrapped up in what's going on around me and lose sight of how big God's hands
are to be able to hold every part of this world in them. It's right then that
He does something to open my eyes again. It blows me away every time!

Can't Wait to See Jesus

Captive Free South West
This
has been a great experience. So far we
have done shows at everything from detention centers to chapels and worship
services. God has shown his love to us
everywhere we have gone. Our host
families have welcomed us with open arms. On September 30 th, we
played at a boys ranch and a detention center.
At the detention center, we played two shows, one for the girls and one
for the boys. The boys ranch was really cool.
I think they really enjoyed it.
They even started dancing. The
detention centers were awesome. The
participation and enthusiasm shown was great. The girls at the detention center
totally made my night. There were only
10 of them but they danced to almost every song. They were awesome! The
guys at the detention center showed their support differently. They didn't dance but they did help us move
all our equipment and set up and tear down our stage.

I Was Blessed to be a Part of This

Captive Free West Lakes
All
I can say is wow! This has been a time of growth and shows me everyday how much
I need the power of God in my life. Let's just say that I may have found a
state that is just as cool as Texas. The land here in Wisconsin is beautiful,
but the hospitality of the people here is what makes it the place it is. I have
been shown love everywhere I go. I have found that the presence of God is most
powerfully felt in the strangest of places. We went to play at a boys’
detention center, and I must admit I was a little apprehensive about this. As
we entered, we were greeted by the cold sharp rows of fences adorned with razor
wire. When we played songs for these boys, they clapped along and sang the
songs. But I guess the most surprising part was how into the puppet show they
got. They loved it. We didn't even have to pry to get them to do the actions to
“Radical God.” It was awesome. The place was warm with the worship of these
individuals in such a harsh environment. I was blessed to be a part of this.

Today I would like to
share one of my experiences on tour with you.
You see, throughout my time as the Spoke Folk director, I’ve seen many
things that blow me away about this ministry, but I’ve also seen things that
just make me smile. And sometimes we all
need something to smile about.
