Youth Encounter Announces New Theme for 2003-04
Recreation or Re-creation?
by Ted Rossing

Ahhh…summer!  Time to get outdoors and enjoy God’s wonderful creation.  Time to go camping, biking, walking, play sports, etc… There are tons of different forms of recreation we all enjoy. If you put a hyphen in the word “recreation”, it means something similar to but not quite the same as the original meaning.  The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines recreation as “refreshment of strength and spirits; also : a means of refreshment or diversion” while “to create again” defines re-creation.

The theme for Youth Encounter’s 2003-2004 event season is “New Creation”.  It is based on 2 Corinthians 5:17 which states, “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!”

Meet Peder Eide
Peder Shares his Vision for Music and Ministry
www.pedereide.com
by Youth Encounter

“One of the biggest needs in today's generation is to worship--to totally worship God. When you worship with Peder Eide you'll be doing just that--heartfelt praise and worship to our Lord."
~Rebecca St. James, Forefront Recording Artist

Peder Eide (ide) has spent most of the last twelve years serving God as a full-time singer/songwriter and speaker. Peder ministers throughout all of North America at national gatherings, festivals, concerts and churches. Youth Encounter is pleased to minister alongside Peder at several Youth Quakes and Youth Congresses throughout the Event season. His love for people fuels his ministry with the desire to encourage, challenge, and motivate everyone to a closer walk with Jesus Christ. Peder has eight recording projects to his credit. His most recent CD, What a Ride, focuses on God's call for us to "run the race" with passion and a hunger for Him--to make our lives count, not just last. You can get more information on Peder Eide at http://www.pedereide.com . Recently, Peder was kind enough to take some time to share with us about his music, his ministry, and the scoop on his newest project.

One Last Night in Australia
New Vision Returns to the United States!
by Sarah Liggett

New Vision with their main contacts for their Australian tour, Tim (far left) and Tricia (far right)
Wow, what a whirlwind these past few months have been!  It’s funny how time can seem to fly by and stand still all at once.  Although I have many great memories and many fun stories I would love to share with you about our time in Australia, I think I was most hit by the “awesomeness” of God in our final few days as I realized just how much He used us and how much He provided for us in terms of friendship, comfort and support while we were so far from home. The night before our flight home to the United States we had a farewell service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Box Hill, a suburb of Melbourne.  It was a wonderful time to celebrate our four months in Australia, to take joy in the ministry of Youth Encounter and the Lutheran Youth of Victoria (LYV), to be reminded of God’s faithfulness and goodness, and to say goodbye to many wonderful people that we had grown to love over the course of our tour.

Captive Free North East
Check Out an entry from their Online Journal!
by Captive Free North East

“This past evening is something that I will never forget and is something that changed my life. I have a stuffed bunny named Bunny, and Bunny usually hides out in my duffel bag until it's bedtime. But this evening for some reason I started talking with someone about stuffed animals and decided to share with them Bunny. So throughout the program I would look over and see Bunny being taken care of by my new friend. It made me smile every time I looked their way.

Last night was the first evening that we were all brought together, our team and some of the church members, and we joined in prayer over one of the congregational members. And it happened to be the one who had been holding my bunny.

Captive Free South West
Stories from the Road
by Captive Free South West

“Hello from Las Vegas!! This weekend we are having the first ever Las Vegas Quake. It is so weird how for our last one in Sacramento which was my first Quake ever, I was so nervous but for this one I am very excited that it is here. We had the first celebration last night and over all it went really well. Our team got to lead campfire. It was so powerful to see youth worship our Lord and Savior. They just opened up their ears and hearts to the words that the Lord was putting in our mouths.
