Meet Jonathan Rundman
Independent Artist Shares His Thoughts on Music and More
by Youth Encounter
Jonathan Rundman is a Midwest-based songwriter, performer
and recording artist whose music has been called “a welcome return to the
simple essence of rock and roll.” His songs have been acclaimed in the pages of
BILLBOARD magazine, and heard on radio stations from coast to coast. One of
Jonathan’s new songs entitled “The Serious Kind” has been selected as a program
song for the 2003 ELCA Youth Gathering…listen for it if your youth group plans
on going to Atlanta for the gathering! Jonathan also has a long history in youth
ministry. He has toured nationally and overseas with Youth Encounter’s Captive
Free teams, worked as Outreach Director at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp in
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and spent four years as youth director at Emmaus
Lutheran Church in Eugene, Oregon. Jonathan lives in Minneapolis with his wife
Dawn who is an editor at Augsburg Fortress publishers. Jonathan was kind enough to take some time to share some of
his current adventures in music and ministry...

A Life-Long Memory
News from the Events Division
by Jo Barrett
The St Louis Quake was
right in the middle of a very crazy event season for me. We had an extra 100
people coming that we had not originally expected, so that threw me into a bit
of a panic in terms of finding Trek (workshop) leaders and making the hotel facilities
work for our requirements.
I was excited to have
Agape (David Scheer) and Kari Lyn Wampler attend the event as our musician and
speaker. They had both been at other events of mine, and I knew their messages
were very clear and effective and the kids would respond well to what they were
saying.
10,9,8…3,2,1! Captive Free
starts the weekend off with a high-energy song and the youth are jumping up and
down and having a blast.

Half the Battle
Thoughts from the New Vision Team to Australia
by Steve Ellwein
A pronounced difference
exists between knowing about something or someplace by hearing about it and
knowing by experiencing it. Since August, as we were preparing to come to
Australia, we heard stories from those who had been there. We read Culturegrams,
looked at slides and read books on Aussie slang, and we thought we had a pretty
good idea of what we were in for. All of that, however, cannot compare to the
real thing as it is now happening for us.

The Body of Christ
Cross Fire to West Africa
by Dan Rebolledo
During my time here in Africa, I have been repeatedly
reminded of the nearness, the realness and of the gift of the Body of Christ.
I have been reminded through many different people and many
different events of how we are all of one Body.
Having grown up in a different culture, a different climate,
and amidst a different language, it could easily, and possibly rightly, be
assumed that I might find no place among the peoples here. Yet for all the
challenges that are present, there is nothing that can separate us from the
love of God (Romans 8:39).

Congresses, conventions and other future training events. All courses are held
