International Teams Depart
Five Teams Begin Their Cross-Cultural Ministry
by Erik Hummel

Now in its 33rd year of International Team ministry, Youth Encounter recently sent out five International Teams (more than any previous year) for their overseas destinations.  New Vision and Cross Fire left on January 13.  New Vision is returning to Victoria and Tasmania in Australia for the first time since 1993.  They are working with the Council for Lutheran Youth of Victoria and Tasmania – a ministry of the Lutheran Church of Australia.  Cross Fire continues its three-year rotation this year with a visit to the French-speaking West African countries of Togo, Benin and Cameroon.

God Is In Control
A Note from the Events Division
by Jennifer Miller

This past weekend, I attended the first event of the New Year. There had been so much work and preparation on the part of the staff at Youth Encounter, the bands and speaker, the volunteer Event Planning Crew members who work on the details of the event throughout the year, small group leaders, adult leaders, youth groups and the fabulous hotel staff. However, with all the planning that goes into these events ahead of time, you always have to expect the unexpected.

Head to the Heart is Here!!  The latest music release from Youth Encounter is on the road. National Bands and International Teams are carrying one of the most exciting recordings that Youth Encounter has put out in years. A bold claim? Perhaps. Get a copy and judge for yourself. You'll find nine original songs written by some of your favorite Youth Encounter friends, like Jonathan Rundman, Brian Spahr and Cathy Pino. Watch for a special edition booklet of lead sheets as well! In addition, there are four international songs from Benin, India, Denmark, and Taiwan. Finally, the CD is stacked with excellent performances by this year's team members.

Youth Encounter also has new “Head to the Heart” shirts as well as new Captive Free and International Team shirts.

You will find the “Head to the Heart” CD and all of our products at our NEW and IMPROVED web store. Just go to www.youthencounter.org and click on “Store.” Or, if you prefer to order by phone, call our toll-free number (1-800-659-6884).

On the Road with CAPTIVE FREE NORTH EAST
Check Out Their Onlne Journal!
by Captive Free North East

“I never knew that I could hit my high and low for the year so far in one night. We gave a concert at a lock-in for mostly kids, but there were some families there. I felt like I was standing up there and my lips were moving but nothing was coming out. I wanted to cry in the middle of the concert. But there were two boys who stood up and did every sing-a-long and smiled at me throughout the concert. I went up to them after the concert and told them how much their enthusiasm meant to me.

A Day in the Life of CAPTIVE FREE EAST LAKES
Check Out Their Online Journal!
by Captive Free East Lakes

“We spent the night at a Children’s Home tonight and did a program for a few young women there. They all seemed hesitant to participate in our sing-a-longs at first. I was therefore not the most energetic at that program and I began to doubt if we were doing any good. It didn’t even seem like the girls were really enjoying themselves. Shortly after these thoughts entered my brain, God showed me that we did have a purpose there.

Ministry with CAPTIVE FREE NORTH CENTRAL
Check Out Their Online Journal!
by Captive Free North Central

“Our booking, which was a family night program, went extremely well. It left us thanking God for that experience. We learned not to take the wonderful programs for granted. The first time we gave autographs really showed us that what we say, how we act, and the manner in which we minister really do speak for us. That is what people see.

Side By Side Global Work Crews
Can One Summer Change Your Life?
by Emma Kasiga

Side By Side Global Work Crew is a summer ministry opportunity for young people (15 yrs+) to serve on a mission trip overseas. Crews are trained/debriefed in Minneapolis, Minnesota for about three days before/after their time overseas. There are at least four different tours to four different countries every year.  It is an awesome opportunity for individuals, youth groups and adult counselors, as the mission of Side By Side Global Work Crews encourages all to build relationships founded in God’s love forged in the experience of cross-cultural living, working, and worshiping “side by side” with overseas hosts.
