Churchnoise Artists Lost & Found Host A Celebration
www.churchnoise.com
by Pete Obermueller

The musical duo Lost And Found hosted their fourth annual Christmas Show in December.  The show, seen this year in Atlanta, Memphis, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Madison and Cincinnati, features four different performers in an effort to perform a Christmas Show enjoyable for the whole family.

Lost And Found (www.speedwood.com) hosts the show and also provides the backdrop by leading the crowd in common Christmas hymns, but the shows main attraction is the eclectic combination of the remaining three acts.

An Update From the Event Division
by Jennifer Miller

“Your program works and its success is due to the dedication of so many people...that work hard behind the scenes for our youth...I know the weekends are planned mostly for the youth but I must say I was ministered to in a BIG way.  Don’t stop.”

I recently received this in an e-mail from an adult leader who recently attended one of the Fall events. So often the e-mails we receive about our events come from youth who have attended. This one, however, caused me to stop and remember...

Imagine This...
by Kelcey Guck

Kelcey (right) and Allison praise the Lord during a program Imagine this, you arrive in Minneapolis at a church at about 3:00. You walk up to a group of kids and on their nametags are written the words, “Captive Free Southwest.” "Hi, I'm Allison", says one of the people with the nametag on. "Hi, I'm Matt", says the other. You think to yourself, “This is who I am going to be living with for the next year? Am I crazy for wanting to do this?” Yes, this was running through my mind on August 19th, 2002 when I met my team for the first time. But I am very happy to announce that the feelings on that day have changed a lot!

While sitting in sessions at training this summer, I heard this quote that pretty much sums up being on Captive Free: "A year of ministry, a lifetime of experience." I am already beginning to realize that this statement is very true.

Growing Up
by Trina Connary

Trina (center) poses with two new friends Growing up, I've always lived with my mother and younger sister. My parents divorced when I was really young, so I don't remember my father at all. I never really thought about the fact that I didn’t have a dad. My mother did an amazing job raising my sister and me, and it just never bothered me.

When I got into middle school, I realized that my family was different than a lot of other families. I had no dad, and I very rarely talked to the rest of my family, except my grandma. It started to bother me that I didn't have a "normal" family. I questioned families in general, wondering why everyone else's family was "normal".

Triune Brain, Part I
Effective Information for Your Youth Ministry Program from our Friends at Faith Inkubators
www.faithink.com
by Tracy Lysne

Tracy Lysne, Guide Development Specialist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota To get a visual representation of the following parts, hold up an arm and make a fist. The forearm represents the brainstem and your fist is the mid-brain. Wrap your other hand over your fist to represents the cortex.

In our Confirmation program, we spend a lot of time sharing with kids about the Trinity. Did you know that there is another important trinity to think about when working with kids? It’s called the triune brain: the brainstem, the mid-brain, and the cortex

Before you think I’m going to get too deep in to medical school-type jargon, please realize that the more I’ve read about brain function, the more I’ve discovered how important it is to, as Faith Inkubators says, “teach the way the brain learns.”
