Is Part-Time Work a Full-Time Reality?
by Karen Steede-Terry

At this time of year, it's particularly clear how difficult it can be for women (or anyone) to juggle work responsibilities with life and family responsibilities. Instead of ringing in the New Year with a resolution to find a more flexible job, how about determining how to make your career more flexible?

Selling Skills for Non-Salespeople
by Janet Ryan

During the holiday season, people are often so preoccupied with completing personal sales needs (who really finishes shopping in October?), that B2B and non-retail sales slow down. While it may feel like you're on stand still until after the new year, let's take a look at the opportunities and challenges of the holiday season that arise from a sales perspective.

Ask Liz
Am I under any obligation to explain to my boss my health situation?

Dear Liz,
I have two minor medical issues that I have to deal with. While these do not affect my job performance, it will require that I juggle my work hours or take some sick time for several doctor appointments and diagnostic tests over the next couple of months. Am I under any obligation to explain to my boss my health situation? In the past, she has been accomodating in adjusting work hours for doctor's appointments, but I am afraid it will be much more noticeable and might raise a few eyebrows or affect my yearly evaluation if I do this without an explanation.
Thanks,
Ruby

You Must Really Like to Open Your Mouth!
Pinch Me...or Don't

I was eight months pregnant with my third daughter when my company's second quarter meeting occurred. The meetings were held at a private residence, catered, with games and a pool. As I was walking up to where everyone else was mingling, the owner of our company looked up, saw me and exclaimed (shouted is more like it), "WOW! You must really like sex!" He's a known "flirt," but I couldn't believe that even he would say that in front of everyone.

WorldWIT Snapshot

What's on the top of your mind these days at work?

Work, of course!

How many presents I still have to buy.

How I'm going to feed and entertain family members over the holiday.

New Year's resolutions I'll need to make.

Are Women Lost at C-Level?
A recent article examines the lack of women who occupy the c-suite and why. Currently less than 2% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women and women occupy only 16% of other corporate officer positions. "Corporate boards remain, for the most part, clubby and male-dominated worlds where members have attended many of the same schools, dress the same and represent a single social class." There's certainly no easy answer, but the article raises some interesting questions, including asking how women might be contributing to this dearth.
