A Radical Approach to Being Laid Off
When Just Surviving Just Isn't Good Enough!
by Bill Crawford, PhD
It's clear that being laid off can affect one's emotional and mental health. Often these symptoms can transfer to one's physical health, too. I Believe You Have My Stapler
Here at WorldWIT, we keep our global community going with plenty of Diet Coke on hand, not to mention paper clips and pita chips. Ask Liz
How do I handle my employee's overly detailed phone calls?
Dear Liz, I think I may be overly tolerant when it comes to people making personal calls while "on the clock." For example, a direct report of mine is going through a difficult divorce. She has conversations on the phone pertaining to the details of her divorce and soon-to-be ex-husband's bad behavior. Occasionally he will call her at work and they will argue on the phone. She doesn't get really loud, but we work in a low-wall cube environment and you can hear a pin drop. I want to be sensitive to what she is going through, but I am very uncomfortable overhearing some of her phone conversations. As her manager, I feel I need to discuss the issue with her. Any suggestions on the approach I should take? Truly, Dorothy

The Name is the Same
Pinch Me...or Don't
I work in a relatively small office and my boss' behavior is outrageous sometimes! We have several employees that are from India and when talking to them he will interchange their names. When he realizes that he has done this he laughs and says, "You guys all look the same!" and laughs more. -C.H., ChicWIT
