Network Weaving
Strategies for Work-Life Integration
by Mindy Fried and Mindy Gewirtz
Despite a powerful social movement to create family-friendly workplaces, many businesses have cultures that do not support work-life integration. While women are increasingly represented in high level professions, the culture of most workplaces still equates long hours with loyalty and commitment, which impedes the use of policies aimed at integrating work and personal spheres. How can we ensure that there are policies in place that support employees’ work-life integration and create organizational capability to support their use?

Creating the Market AND Keeping It
Selling Skills for Non-Salespeople
by Janet Ryan

Ask Liz
How do I address an unwelcome conversation-joiner?
Dear Liz, I could use help with an awkward situation. I manage a team of inside sales reps who work in a bullpen-type area of low-wall cubicles. I sit in the same area and my boss, the VP of Sales, sits in another low-wall-cube just outside the bullpen area. Frequently I go and sit near my boss to discuss some issue. Very often, one of my inside sales reps comes over to join in the conversation. I hate to say, "This is a private conversation," but I don't want to say, "Don't you have work to do?" Any suggestions? Warning! Creep Alert
Pinch Me...Or Don't
While my office was being renovated, my desk and workstation were moved to the server room, a large, sterile, air controlled, but NOISY environment. Surrounded by whirring fans, servers, network stacks and machinery noises, I was working at my desk when the terminal display next to me suddenly flashed Warning! Warning! A loud beep chirped periodically, and I felt I should alert someone. Finding the Network admin in the next aisle, I told him that the display next to me gave a warning, and he said with a raised eyebrow, "Did you mean that?" "What?" I wondered aloud. And he said, "I thought you said 'Me so horny,'" with an equally creepy laugh following. I was dumbstruck. Pinch me...or don't. I just want to pretend I didn't hear THAT! - Amy

This report contains information on studies and tips on how companies can incorporate arts and culture to the benefit of employees and organizations.
