Gender Gap in Reverse
Think the gender gap exists at universities? It does, but not how you might imagine. The recent New York Times article “At Colleges, Women Are Leaving Men in the Dust”  observes that men are not only trailing women in enrollment but are also less likely to get bachelor’s degrees. Additionally, studies have shown that men get worse grades than women and study less and socialize more than women. What do you think? Do you see any reverberations of this phenomenon in the workplace? Send your thoughts to annej@corp.worldwit.org.

Ask Liz
How do I address an unproductive co-worker with my boss?
by Liz Ryan

Dear Liz,
I used to own my own business, a search firm. I sold the business two years ago and now work for another firm. But I guess I think like a business owner now, because there is a woman in our firm who does nothing, and it drives me crazy. I know I should forget about it, but this woman is literally taking a paycheck to do nothing. And as much as I can tell myself "it's the manager's job to notice that," I can hardly stand to talk to this co-worker. How do I address the problem?
Yours,
Rina

Pinch Me...Or Don't

My television production company, Double R Productions, was one of three selected to come for a final pitch in Chicago.  It was the dead of winter. My partner (also my husband) and I scrambled to find a flight from DC to make the pitch session, which of course was scheduled with two days notice. Our flight to Chicago was the last one to actually land through a blinding blizzard. We literally ran to the airport hotel nearby and breathlessly hit the door late but felt relieved to have made it. We were about a half hour late and clearly the all white male audience was annoyed. We sat down, trying to catch our breath. Apparently they assumed I was an assistant instead of the president of the company, as I was asked to go, "Get some coffee for the group, won't you little gal?"
