Selling Products vs. Selling Services
Selling Skills for Non-salespeople
by Janet Ryan

Ask Liz
How can I tell whether it's my job or my profession that's irking me?
Dear Liz, I have a job, but I don't love it. I don't think it's the right job for me or maybe it's not the right profession. The job is in Human Resources and I can't tell whether it's just this job or the whole HR thing that doesn't work for me. On top of that, if I'm not cut out to be an HR person, what am I cut out to be? How do I find out and should I take another HR job in the meantime? Thanks, Beulah

That Would Be Me
Pinch Me... or Don't
I am a female entrepreneur that has developed and patented a very complicated technology. When trying to raise capital to take it to market, I was introduced to a man in charge of an angel investment group. When I told him about my technology he said, “That technology is pretty sophisticated, who developed it for you?” I replied, that would be me. We talked a little further and he asked with a hesitant voice if I had a business plan. I replied, “Well of course, you can’t run a business or raise capital without one,” and I agreed to send him a copy. When the appointed date and time came for me to follow up I gave him a call. He started the conversation with, “This is one of the best written business plans that I have read in years! Who wrote it for you?” That would be me. Elaine, ClevelandWIT

Get to Work or Else
Linda Hirshman's recent book argues that women must not leave the workforce to stay home with their children. While Meghan O’Rourke may not agree with the way Hirshman expresses her opinion, she feels that Hirshman does have a valid point. In her article, O’Rourke discusses how women should defend their careers not just for themselves, but for heightened social equality.
