Ask Liz
Can I use my boss as a sounding board?

Dear Liz,
My great work-friend and reliable sounding board has just been promoted (way to go!) and will soon become my boss. I am happy for her, but I'm afraid I'm losing a sounding board. What are the ground rules for using your boss as someone to bounce ideas off of?

You Gotta Problem With That?
Pinch Me... or Don't!

My incident took place when I had a position with a Corporate Research and Development organization of a fortune 500 company. My role was akin to an internal account manager; I interacted with the engineers and scientists at the R&D center and our division marketing and engineering managers in our numerous divisions to determine how technology could provide competitive advantage to the product lines. I had a BS in Engineering, an MBA, and 6 years of experience at another fortune 500 company. About one year into my new role, the Director of the R&D center paid me a visit. I was disagreeing with a senior engineer with how he was "servicing" one of our divisions. The Director sat down in my office and started the conversation with...."The problem here is that you are a woman."

Survey finds men more likely to surf the web during work hours

A new "Web@Work" survey by Websense, Inc. has found that men are more likely than women to use the Internet for personal reasons at work. This article from KSBI-TV in Oklahoma outlines this and other findings of the 2005 survey. Drop us a line at info@worldwit.org and tell us what you think about the results!
