Ask Liz
How do I deal with my incompetent boss?

Dear Liz,
I want my boss's job so badly I can taste it. She is a nice woman, but in way over her head. Her peers don't respect her, my teammates and I certainly don't, and on top of that she confides in me about her fears of being unequipped for her job. Not only could I move our group forward dramatically in my boss's job, but I suffer every day (and I don't choose that word lightly) from her bad decisions, and yet feel obligated to give her a shoulder to cry on. It's hell! Any advice for me?

Thanks,
Joanne

The Icing on the Cake
Pinch Me... or Don't

While at a business dinner with the regional sales team and marketing managers during the company's weeklong regional meeting in San Diego, we all ordered dessert. The only female marketing manager received one with a penis-shaped concoction "erected" on top of it with whipped cream sprayed on by the waiter. As it arrived, the team goaded her to lick it off to cheers. She didn't - to her credit, but I bet she is still there. I left the company shortly later due to a similar incident (and other reasons) but not before they promoted another woman (a notorious puppet for the male managers) to show how liberated they were!
