by Janet Ryan
For over a month I have been writing about e-mail communications, but after the week I’ve had, I realize voicemail could use some attention too. Ask Liz
How can I help my socially immature employee?
Dear Liz, I supervise a young woman who is very immature (not only my perception; others from the CEO and COO down have commented about it to me). Needless to say, I soon left that company to go to another Fortune 500 company, but not before making an appointment with the first company's CEO and telling him in person how much I appreciated their willingness to pay for my education!

In Liz Ryan's recent article for Businessweek Online, she highlights how army-style leadership is needed in corporate environments. "Nine times out of 10, promotions in the corporate world are based on one's functional skills, deal-closing being a particularly salient one. What if the equation were shifted so that the people who are promoted are the ones who lead troops most successfully?"
