From Breakdown to Breakthrough

The ability for organizations to reach their next level of greatness is determined by the atmosphere. The atmosphere is determined by the quality of the relationships. The quality of the relationships is determined by the quality of the conversations. The key to turning breakdowns into breakthrough is to shift the atmosphere from distrust to trust and to rebuild relationships. Follow Up: The Great Glass Ceiling

Two weeks ago we linked to a
Forbes piece about women and the idea that a glass ceiling exists preventing women from reaching high level positions in organizations. The article cited a new study that finds that while the majority of both women and men believe that a glass ceiling exists that prevents women from climbing to higher professional positions, the majority of women are satisfied with their salaries and career status. According to the findings, what seems like a disparity may be the reality. Pinch Me... or Don't!

I'm a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience. Once, after interviewing for an executive coaching assignment, I was told that I shouldn't color my hair. Apparently, they were concerned that I looked too young for the role.  Gee, I thought my resume, references and interviews would count for more than a few gray hairs.

In her recent BusinessWeek online article Liz Ryan discusses the importance of the written offer letter. "When you're evaluating an offer, you need to look it over, all the parts together. You can't be expected to say 'yes!' on the phone when the recruiter tells you, 'We'd like to hire you as a program analyst at X salary, Y bonus, Z amount of travel, and with our standard benefits package.' Whaaa? To see the entire picture, you need the offer letter."
