Conscious Leadership
Becoming a Self-Actualized Leader
by John Renesch

This week's guest column looks at the difference between traditional leadership models and what John Renesch calls "conscious leadership"--a way of motivating, empowering, and inspiring your workforce. "What is sorely needed in our institutions today are leaders who are more authentic, conscious, and operate with what some call the 'feminine' energies of support, compassion and mentoring." Read more about conscious leadership and then take our WorldWIT Snapshot survey at right and tell us what type of leadership creates the best work environment for you.

When Bad Things Happen to Good Interviews
by Liz Ryan for BusinessWeek online

You apply for a job, make it to the interview stage, and get along smashingly with the interviewer. Then nada, zip, nothing, no call. What happened? “Too often over the years, job-hunting friends or associates have told me they'd had a stimulating interview with a recruiter or hiring manager -- followed by nothing but silence.” In her BusinessWeek online column WorldWIT founder Liz Ryan explains the possible reasons behind this seemingly bizarre occurrence and reveals how the interviewee can use it to her advantage for the future.

Ask Liz
Is it unethical to accept a new job when I've just been promoted?

Dear Liz,

Can I take a new job shortly after being promoted at my old job? I have only been in my new position for three months. But I have been presented with a killer offer from a great company. Help!

Thanks,
Bonnie

Say What?!
Pinch Me...or Don't

I work in the management consulting industry. Several years ago, I was working with a $3 billion+ company on a project (in a male-dominated industry). Part of the project involved conducting sales and negotiations training with the company's regional offices located throughout the country. In one particular training session, we had approximately 25-30 attendees, including the company's CEO. During a discussion section of training, the region's Vice President made the comment that women should be "at home, barefoot and pregnant" in front of the entire group of attendees, including the majority of his subordinates. If the VP said this in front of the company's CEO, I can only imagine what was said when the CEO was out of earshot.... Thankfully the CEO immediately said something to him in front of the group, but five years later, I know the Vice President still has his same position.
