Take Another Look (At My Résumé)!
Pinch Me... or Don't!

The telecom company I was working for was in the midst of laying off staff. It chose to hire an outside consultant as the HR point of contact to pink slip everyone in our department. We all participated in one-on-one exit interviews with this consultant, who was ostensibly there to assist us with job placement as well as go over our meager two weeks pay exit package. I had a total of fifteen years telecom experience, had run my own company, etc., but for my exit interview the man briefly scanned my résumé, then stared at me across the desk, and emphatically stated, "You are a very beautiful woman. You will not have any problem finding a new job, with your looks."
