Here are some tips from WorldWIT members on summertime business lunching:

·         Al Fresco - Outdoor locations are great but not if the weather is bad, too hot or humid - ask the client or colleague what they prefer before making the arrangements. Perhaps their assistant will have an idea for you too when you set up the meeting. -Patricia Schuler, Sales Consultant

·         Connections - Read the paper that morning so you are well versed on current events. Also, exchange cell phone #s in advance in case there’s a problem connecting. -Diane C. Darling, Effective Networking, Inc.

·         Food Chain - In business, rank rules. So when making introductions, say the name of the most important person first. For example, "Mr. Client, I would like to introduce to you my boss, Ms. Boss." Always stand up to be introduced. -Ann Mah, Discover! Strategies

·         Alcohol - In some industries having a drink at lunch is acceptable and it is always polite to invite your client to have a drink even if you're having iced tea! It could also send the wrong message, so use your common sense. -Kathe Mayer, Mayer Associates

·         Tobacco - Smoking is usually dictated by where you choose to sit. When the hostess asks for your preference, check with your lunch partner for their penchant. If a client wants to smoke and drink, be prepared to accommodate them, but don’t be the first to light up. –Mark E. Petey, DaimlerChrysler
