Needle in a Haystack
Last week in Thinking Aloud, we wondered aloud whether there was a company with over 1000 employees and a female CEO, CIO/CTO and CFO and men in the traditionally female roles - leading HR and PR. We didn't come up with a winner, but we heard about five organizations that come close (they are either smaller than 1000 employees, or missing the 'right' gender in one of the key roles.) So we wanted to highlight those companies and thank our five correspondents with one $20 Amazon gift certificate apiece. Thanks for your help! The elusive company that fits our bill is still out there somewhere, we hope!

Here are the responses from five WorldWIT members:
"You may want to look at Clifton Gunderson LLP and our Clifton Gunderson Technology Solutions. We have a male as director of Administrative Services/ Marketing and Communications and a female Director of Technology."

Clifton Gunderson Technology Solutions

" I work for Cook County, Illinois, the second largest county in the US with a population of 5.4 million and employer to 26,000 employees. The County's CIO is Catherine Maras O'Leary, whom I report to as the Internet Project Manager (webmaster) for the County. She has been in her position for 6+ years. She also has a female head of Office Technology & Automation and many of the heads of technical departments in the county are women....We have a male President of the County (who appointed her) and a male head of Human Resources."

Kathy Markham
Internet Project Manager
Cook County Bureau of Information Technology and Automation

"I thought I was sooo close with CEO and President Anita Sayed from Colorado Time Systems, but the HR person is female - though I believe the PR person is male."

" In case you weren't able to find any examples of companies (of over 1000) with female leaders and male administrators, here's an example -with a smaller staff. I believe this type of things is much more common in non-profit companies which tend to have a higher number of females."
Advocate Charitable Foundation
Park Ridge, IL (aka Chicagoland)
CEO/President -Heather Hutchison
COO/CFO - Susan Ell
Human Resources/Admin - Kevin Crowe

Alexis H. (former Director of Annual Programs at Advocate Charitable Foundation)
(currently writer in Aix-en-Provence, France)

"Hewlett Packard has a female CEO and if memory serves me well, Lucent has just named a female CEO. The woman at Hewlett has been CEO for approximately 2 to 3 years. There is an interesting book on Hewlett Packard Sole in the Computer by Barbara Waugh."
