Buick Safety
Providing peace of mind in every model

Since 1959, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has been the automotive industry standard for testing and certifying the crash safety performance of every vehicle sold in the United States. The IIHS tests to see how well a vehicle protects occupants in high-speed front and side crashes, rollovers and rear impacts; seat/head restraints are also evaluated. Vehicles that earn the top rating, “Good,” in all four categories are considered extremely safe, and are given the highly coveted “Top Safety Pick” award.

For 2012, Buick has four models – Regal, Verano, LaCrosse and Enclave – that have earned “Top Safety Pickstatus, proof that Buick vehicles are among the safest on the road today. What’s more, the Enclave, Regal and LaCrosse have each received a top “5-Star” Overall Vehicle Score for safety in the U.S. Government’s New Car Assessment Program. Here’s a look at some of the essential elements behind the outstanding safety performance of Buick vehicles?

Designed from the ground up with safety in mind, every Buick is built with a robust unitized body structure that incorporates 60 percent high-strength steel in critical areas to maximize energy absorption and preserve rigidity in the event of an impact. This high-strength steel safety-cage design functions as a rolling fortress, protecting every occupant in the vehicle.

Adding to the strong unitized body structure, every Buick features comprehensive advanced airbag systems. Take, for instance, the 2012 Buick Verano, which features 10 standard airbags including frontal air bags, driver and front passenger knee air bags, front and outboard-rear-seat side-impact airbags and head-curtain side airbags that also deploy in the event of a rollover. For smarter airbag deployment, a Passenger Sensing System detects weight and pressure in the front passenger seat, so in the event of an accident when there is no front-seat passenger, the airbag does not deploy.

Buick engineers take a holistic approach to vehicle safety, incorporating features that interconnect so the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control comes standard on all Buick vehicles, along with a full-time Traction Control System to constantly monitor and maintain traction during emergency maneuvers and inclement weather conditions. To further enhance traction and vehicle control, every Buick comes standard with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TMPS). Not only is TPMS convenient – letting you know when tire pressure falls below recommended levels – it also helps prevent dangerous low-pressure situations and alert a driver to potential blow outs.

All Buicks also feature a cutting edge standard and available technology features focused on making everyday driving even safer. A Rear Vision Camera system displays a live image of the area immediately behind the vehicle on a color LCD touch-screen that also operates the navigation and audio systems. The Rear Vision Camera helps avoid backing into other vehicles or pedestrians who may be crossing your path in a busy parking lot.

Another technologically advanced safety feature available on select Buick models is Side Blind Zone Alert, which uses radar to monitor your blind spots. Any time a vehicle enters a blind spot, a signal illuminates on the outer portion of the same-side exterior mirror, helping increase your awareness and prevent potential accidents.

Of course, perhaps the most recognizable technological highlight of every Buick is the popular OnStar, a comprehensive communication and in-vehicle safety and security system. With the push of a button, you’re connected to a safety net that will provide help wherever you may venture. If the car detects a crash, Automatic Crash Response automatically and immediately connects an Emergency Advisor to your car, even if you’re not able to push a button. If you need aid or can’t respond, OnStar sends emergency help to your exact location.

Every Buick comes with a free six-month trial of the OnStar Directions and Connections plan and includes a long list of handy safety and convenience features. Voice-activated Hands-Free Calling lets you safely make phone calls without the use of a cell phone, and Remote Vehicle Unlock comes in very handy if you lock your keys in your car. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slow-Down and Stolen Vehicle Recovery help disable and locate your stolen vehicle, assisting authorities to recover it safely. Turn-by-Turn Navigation connects you with an advisor for detailed directions to any destination, and to help ensure the health of your Buick, OnStar will email you a diagnostic and maintenance check of your vehicle every month, so you can keep track of when it’s time to service your vehicle.

Recent additions to the OnStar system include the OnStar RemoteLink Mobile App, a smartphone integrated application that takes vehicle connectivity to a level not found with competitors. With the RemoteLink Mobile App, your smartphone can access real-time vehicle data, lock and unlock your doors, remotely start your engine and sound your horn and lights.

The safest and most technologically connected family vehicles on the road today are available for you to experience first-hand when you visit our showroom. Come in and test drive the award-winning Buick of your choice today.
