Life in Motion Wins Prestigious Magellan Awards
WE MOVE is pleased to announce that the Life in Motion awareness initiative has again been recognized for excellence by the communications industry. This month, the campaign was awarded three 2005 Magellan Awards by the League of American Communications Professionals.
Specifically, Life in Motion was awarded:
· PLATINUM in the Overall Most Engaging in the Competition-Wide Quality Specific category;
· SILVER in the Organizational Communications: Non-Profit/Charity/Foundation category; and
· Ranked 15th among the Top 50 Publicity Campaigns of 2005 (there were 475 entries including American Airlines; The Humane Society; Palm, Inc,; and the National Prostate Cancer Coalition).
The League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) is an organization that encourages excellence in the practice of communications for all organizations.
According to Judith Blazer, Executive Director of WE MOVE, “We attribute the success of Life in Motion to the collaborative efforts of the Life in Motion Coalition. Together we identified and told the stories of real people living with movement disorders … their challenges and triumphs…and the community has responded.”
Movement disorders include over 30 neurologic disorders and affect more than 40 million Americans. Launched in April 2005, the Life in Motion initiative has garnered over 200 million media impressions. The first year of the campaign came to a close with a New York Times article by renowned syndicated medical writer, Jane Brody, in which she described the challenges of living with movement disorders and the promise of available and effective therapies.
Earlier this year, the Life in Motion initiative received two Crystal Awards of Excellence from The Communicator Awards for the Movement Disorders Awareness Month audio news release, as well as an award for the mime video from by the 2005 World Wide Web Health Awards - Health Information Resource Center (HIRC).
Campaign materials include brochures, fact sheets and a Web site at www.life-in-motion.org where visitors can see and hear how movement disorders affect millions of Americans. The Life in Motion initiative will continue into 2006 with media outreach activities planned throughout the year and with special awareness events planned during October, the second annual Movement Disorders Awareness Month.
