Excessive Daytime Sleepiness Often Develops Before a Diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease Is Made
Researchers are continuing to study connections between problems with sleep or excessive sleepiness in people with Parkinson’s disease. The results of a newly published study indicate that men with excessive daytime sleepiness were more likely to develop Parkinson’s disease than were men who were not sleepy during the day.

Previous studies have found modafinil (Provigil®) to be effective in reducing the excessive daytime sleepiness of patients with Parkinson’s disease. A recently published study did not find it to be better than placebo.
