Volkswagen Jetta Wagon
Jetta wagon offers sporty dynamics and available diesel power

Volkswagen’s venerable Jetta wagon is back- offering even more of the space, sportiness and safety that have made it a family hit in the past. Available in three trim levels from $23,475 it boasts the day to day utility and sensibility that today’s busy owner demands.

Jetta wagon rolls on standard 16-inch wheels with a full wheel cover and employs chrome accents, roof rails, available alloy rims and a dual outlet muffler for a sporty and well travelled look.

Power comes from a choice of two engines. A newly revised five-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower starts the model range, and comes with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic ‘tiptronic’ transmission. This engine is designed for the driver looking for peppy performance and decent mileage for sensible all-around operation.

The famous TDI badge has returned for 2009 too, and it gives owners a turbo-diesel four cylinder engine with 140 horsepower for fantastic mileage and plenty of torque. The diesel engine comes with a six-speed manual or a six-speed direct shift gearbox to help further its fuel efficiency.

The smoke and smell commonly associated with diesel engines has been eliminated, and record-breaking mileage is engineered right into the powerplant. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that the US could save 1.4 million barrels of crude oil every day if just one third of all passenger cars and light-duty commercial vehicles were equipped with up-to-date diesel engines like the one in the new TDI.

Jetta Wagon’s flexible interior boasts plenty of storage and features rear folding seats to accommodate any combination of cargo and passengers. Nearly 1895 litres (66.9 cubic feet) of cargo space is available with the rear seats folded, and there’s an optional panoramic sunroof overlooking the generous and accommodating interior.

Jetta wagon is as safe as it is flexible. An Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) and four-wheel ABS disc brakes are offered alongside standard side and side-curtain airbags. Volkswagen’s precisely engineered, laser-welded body is incredibly strong and delivers excellent protection in the unfortunate event of a collision.

When fitted with optional side curtain airbags and Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), Jetta Wagon earns a “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS. The award is given only to top impact performers that come with ESP to help prevent an accident from taking place.

“Safety is a top priority at Volkswagen and this recognition by the IIHS highlights that we are a market leader in offering some of the safest vehicles on the road today,” said Mark Barnes, COO of Volkswagen of America. “Our Prevent and Preserve Safety System is an important factor in the high level of safety and protection in our vehicles.”
