The Volkswagen Eos is for those who don’t want to compromise on quality, but want to avoid breaking the bank, too. With the best of coupe and convertible blended into one neat package, the Volkswagen Eos is sure to win over the hearts of drivers and passengers alike.
The four-passenger 2012 Eos two-door features a power-folding hardtop and is available in Komfort, Lux and Executive trims, starting at an MSRP of $34,350. All models are powered by a turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder that produces 200 hp and 207 lb/ft of torque through a six-speed DSG® automatic transmission with Tiptronic® and Sport mode. The Tiptronic function allows drivers to manually shift gears. Sport mode holds gears longer for optimal performance. Drivers can expect a zero-to-60 sprint in only 7.3 seconds and fuel economy of up to 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.
The 2012 Eos carries updated styling to both the front and rear with a new bumper, swept-back headlamps, new three-blade grille and an available new lighting system with Bi-Xenon HID headlamps. The optional A
daptive Front Lighting System swivels the headlamps up to 15 degrees as the steering wheel turns for better nighttime visibility. In back, a redesigned bumper with dual-tipped chrome exhaust and new rear lights utilizing fiber optic technology are also part of the redesign.
Unique to the Eos is the five-piece steel and glass roof, which also features a heated glass rear window. In just 25 seconds, the roof goes from closed to fully open. Unlike some convertibles that extract a serious penalty in cargo capacity, with the top folded, the Eos can still hold 6.6 cubic feet of cargo. For days when you don’t want to put the top down, a built-in power sunroof lets the fresh air in. The Eos is the only hardtop convertible on the market that has this feature.
Volkswagen puts every Eos built through a treatment Volkswagen pioneered called “hot wax flooding.” The process fills tiny spaces and removes moisture in the hardest to reach areas. This treatment makes the Eos so watertight that Volkswagen offers an industry-leading 12-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation.
Each trim level has a plethora of standard equipment. Highlights for the Komfort line include 17-inch alloy wheels, Climatronic dual-zone electronic climate control with pollen filter, ambient lighting, an eight-speaker touch-screen Premium VIII sound system with HD Radio, Bluetooth, 12-way power adjustments for the driver’s seat and heated front seats. Heated windshield washer nozzles are also standard, which are a boon when the windshield has a thin film of ice on a cold morning.
Eos Lux models add a leather interior, burled walnut interior trim, keyless access with push-button start, the RNS 315 Navigation System and upgraded wheels. The Park Distance Control system helps make parking less stressful, too.
New for 2012 is the Executive trim, which loads up the Eos with 18-inch wheels, RNS 510 navigation system with touch-screen and a 600-watt, 10-channel Dynaudio premium sound system. The suspension has also been tuned on the Executive model with firmer settings for the springs and dampers and the ride height has been lowered by half an inch.
Safety is a Volkswagen staple and the Eos is no different. All models feature a rollover protection system for the rear seats with two aluminum posts that deploy in just a quarter of a second to maintain rear passenger safety. Front-seat passengers are protected by front and side airbags. Also standard are an Automatic Rollover Support System, Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Differential Lock and Anti-Slip Regulation, all of which work in unison to help make sure your car goes where you intend.
The Eos comes standard with the Volkswagen Carefree Maintenance Warranty that provides three years or 36,000 miles of no-cost scheduled maintenance. Roadside Assistance is also included during this time.
