USAT MID-ATLANTIC JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT SERIES
The USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Regional Board of Directors is pleased to announce the creation of a four-event point series for athletes 16 to 19 years of age. The series will consist of 4 races to invigorate junior participation in the sport of triathlon. The first race in the series is The Philadelphia Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, June 24, 2006. RICHMOND TO HOST 2007 ITU DUATHLON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Richmond, Virginia, has been chosen to host the 2007 World Long Course Duathlon Championships on October 21, 2007, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) has announced. Athletes from all around the world will gather in Richmond, VA to compete in a 15K run, 80K bike and then an additional 7.5K run.

MY NEW RACE: CHRONICLES OF A DIAGNOSIS

After 20 years of race experience, Stephen Brown had a new challenge that he was determined to come out of on top. Brown, a 7-time ironman finisher and 15-time marathon finisher was diagnosed with Leukemia, a form of blood cancer. With the support of his family, friends and members of the triathlon community Brown went into treatment with a full head of steam. As he battled the cancer with chemotherapy treatment, Brown continued to train and could not take his mind off of keeping in shape for his next race.

LEHIGH VALLEY STEELMAN TRIATHLON: SUNDAY, JULY 16, 2006

On July 16, 2006 the Lehigh Valley Steelman Triathlon will be held at the 5,200-acre Lake Nockamixon State Park near Quakertown, PA, about 30 miles north of Philadelphia. The event includes both sprint and?Olympic distance races. Sprint distance is .5 mi swim, 12 mi bike, and 3.1 mi run. Olympic race is .9 mi swim, 24.8 mi bike and 6.2 mi run. CYCLIST BOB ROLL MAKES CHARITY APPEARANCE IN MARYLAND
Tour de France competitor Bob Roll will emcee the first charity bike-ride and 5K trial race at Oregon Ridge Park in Maryland on Sunday, September 3, 2006. The Save-A-Limb ride will help support the International Center for Limb Lengthening at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics in Baltimore, Maryland. The ride includes 60, 30 and 15 mile bikes rides and a 5K run. Post race celebration will catered by Outback Steakhouse.

USAT CROWNS DUATHLON NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

The USA Triathlon Duathlon Nationals took place in Ohio last month. Many Athletes from the Mid-Atlantic region competed in the 10K run, 40K bike, 5K run race. With a photo finish separating the top three finishers, Tom Jeffrey of Richmond, VA, a former elite marathoner, brought the US elite national title home to the Mid-Atlantic despite finishing behind three European athletes. Fellow American and Mid-Atlantic athlete Kevin Danahy of Rehoboth, DE crossed just behind Jeffrey finishing fifth overall. Their performances qualified them both for the 2006 ITU Duathlon World Championships on July 29-30 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada. Jeff Miller of Lewistown, PA crossed the finish line in second out of 361 athletes in the age group category.

TUSCALOOSA TO HOST 2007 COLLEGIATE NATIONALS
by TUSCALOOSA TO HOST 2007 COLLEGIATE NATIONALS

USA Triathlon is pleased to announce that Tuscaloosa, Alabama has been selected to host the 2007 USAT Collegiate National Championship. The event, scheduled for April 21, 2007, will feature a 1.5k swim in the beautiful Black Warrior River and 40k bike and 10k run through the campus of the University of Alabama and on the scenic Jack Warner Parkway that runs along the river.
