2004 MID-ATLANTIC REGION DUATHLON SERIES IS UNDERWAY
The 2004 Mid-Atlantic Region Duathlon Series is well
underway with five out of thirteen events having been completed. To receive a ranking in this series,
participants must complete a minimum of three races. Based on results through the first four races, including the
March Mauler Duathlon, the Virginia Duathlon, the Branywine Valley Duathlon and
3sport Duathlon at West Creek, competitors Jeffrey Timm (Bethlehem, Pa.) and
Daryl Baker (Morrisville, N.C.) have completed the three race minimum and lead
the male rankings. No female
participants have completed the three race minimum through the first four
races. The next event to be held in the series is the Blackwater Traverse
Duathlon. This ever-popular race will
be held on May 2, 2004 in Cambridge, Md.

RANKING POLICY ESTABLISHED FOR OPEN DIVISION COMPETITORS
The
Mid-Atlantic and New England Regions recognize that some amateur athletes have
the opportunity to compete regularly in an "open division"
(sometimes called "elite division") at USAT sanctioned events,
which causes them to forfeit regional rankings points in their respective age
group. In an effort to maximize membership benefits for all USAT members
participating in the regional rankings program, the Mid-Atlantic and New
England regions have established a ranking policy for Open Division
competitors.
