NEW HALF IRON DISTANCE RACE COMING TO THE POCONO MOUNTAINS
by Michele Redrow

The Inaugural Black Bear Triathlon will be held June 3, 2007. This event, consisting of a Half Iron distance race and sprint distance race, will take place in the scenic and challenging Pocono Mountains. Both races will start in beautiful Beltzville State Park, just minutes from Jim Thorpe and many other Pocono Mountain Resorts.

The race site is just over an hour from Philadelphia and New Jersey and within two hours of New York City.

The race begins from the beach and into the picturesque waters followed by a scenic yet challenging bike course; with elevations of more than 650’. The run course is phenomenal. It is an out and back on hard packed scenic trails. The Army Corps of Engineers has given CGI special permission to design the run course where athletes will run across the Beltzville Dam (on a paved trail); offering a panoramic view of the Reservoir.

The Poconos Mountain Area is experiencing a rebirth. The revitalization has surged in the past 12 months with new resorts, year ‘round activities for families (a large majority which are free), and a state-wide push to “just get out” (doors, that is). The local and state officials are thrilled to have the Black Bear coming to the area. They have stated that “this is just the type of event that the area has been longing for and it's finally here”.

As with all CGI Races, the race will be USAT sanctioned and will feature a spectator friendly course, post race celebration, Awards Ceremony, live music and more. The race will close out at 850 athletes. More than 1/4 of the slots are already filled.

This is the fourth race introduced under the CGI Racing brand. CGI Racing was created by co-owners and multi-sport athletes, Larry and Michele Redrow out of a desire to develop safe, first-class races in unique, and beautiful locations that are memorable experiences for the athletes and the spectators, too.  Their team has a combined 30 years of event management experience and have produced events both nationally and internationally.
