FIRST ANNUAL MID-ATLANTIC MULTISPORT EXPO DRAWS LARGE CROWD
The first annual TriSpeed Mid Atlantic Multisport Expo and Swap Meet was held on January 12, 2003 in Bethesda Maryland.  This event was presented by Lifesports Inc. (parent company to TriSpeed Multisport, Triathlon Academy and Spinervals Cycling) and MetroSports.  This first time event was a great success, with an estimated 500 people attending.

Bike manufacturers such as Aegis, Cannondale, Orbea, Litespeed, Quintana Roo and Elite Bicycles were present to display their new 2003 product lines. Retailers offered closeout deals on accessories, bikes, shoes and apparel. Several individual vendors were also present trading and selling used equipment. Local clubs and race directors were also invited to promote their events and organizations. Area clubs represented at the expo included the Mid Maryland Triathlon Club, the All American Bicycle Club, the Capital Area Triathlon Club, the Reston Area Triathletes Club and the Baltimore Area Triathlon Club.  Piranha Sports was present to promote the new Greater Atlantic Multisport Series, along with Mid-Atlantic Multisport, the official training company of the series.

Several speakers gave lectures throughout the day on topics ranging from proper swim technique to bicycle maintenance. Body fat and VO2 Max testing were also provided.

Troy Jacobson, President of Lifesports Inc., when asked about the success of the event said, "I am really pleased with the turnout and all of the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from consumers and vendors alike. We planned to have the expo after the holiday at a time when people want a diversion and are starting to think about the upcoming season. It also gives the local sports industry a great opportunity to offer deals on 2002 product and the consumer a chance to find some real bargains. Hopefully, it will help to bolster endurance sports participation in the region too."

When asked about next year, Jacobson said, "We are already looking at how to make it a bigger and better event for 2004. My staff has some great ideas that promise to really make this event one that draws people from up and down the East Coast in the future."

A portion of the gate proceeds were donated to Hopkins Heroes, a charity benefiting the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore Maryland.
