ON CAMPUS
by James Fazio

It’s back to school time.  Time to hit the books and check out the new recruits on campus.  It’s also time for the return of our On Campus column which tracks the collegiate multisport scene.  This month, James Fazio, our regional collegiate representative, looks at the upcoming Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Championship, elections for the national Collegiate Triathlon Association Board, and the possibility that the 2003 National Collegiate Championship may be coming to the Region!

BIG LICK

Hello fellow collegiate triathletes.  Welcome back to school.  I want to remind all of you to sign up for the Outback Big Lick (Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Championship) race as soon as possible.  This race is September 21, 2002.  The race entries doubled in the last week and it is expected to begin filling rapidly.  If your team is sure it is going to attend but has not yet had a meeting, please let me know so I can advise the race administration.  Email me at triathlete@vt.edu

All race information can be found at http://www.set-upinc.com/2001racepages/outback_biglick/index.html
If you have any questions, please let me know.

ELECTIONS

As I mentioned in the spring, we will hold an election for our representative for the National CTA board.  This person will replace me and insure that our Region remains strong and continues to compete, as well as represent us at the National level.  I will work with this person and get him or her up and running before I finish school.  This person will also work with Rob Vigorito and the Mid-Atlantic USAT Board and will represent the needs of collegiate triathletes.  I plan to continue my involvement in the CTA at a national level by trying to get more support across the nation and to organize other regions.

2003 NATIONALS

The bid process for the 2003 Collegiate National Championship has begun and a decision will be made this fall.  Bill Scott of Set-Up, Inc. is bidding on the race with a Charlotte, N.C. race location.  Let’s wish Bill and Set-up luck in the bidding process and hope for the USAT Board to select this race as the 2003 Collegiate National Championship.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
