Andrea Dvorak (McLean, Va.), Otho Keller (Timonium, Md.), Mac Martin (State College, Pa.) and Brian Leske (Washington, D.C.) each took home top honors in their respective divisions at the 2002 USA Triathlon Age Group National Triathlon Championships held in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on August 31st.

Dvorak finished first in the women’s 20-24 age group, Keller in the men’s 25-29 age group, Martin in the men’s 45-49 age group and Leske in the physically challenged-lower extremity division.  Pete Kain (Cupertino, Calif.) and Julie Swail (Irvine Calif.) were the overall winners in the race.

Kain, a past age group world champion, completed the 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run in 1 hour, 59 minutes, 28 seconds. Keller (2:00:25) was the second to cross the line and was the top finisher from the Mid-Atlantic region.  David Thompson (Appleton, Minn.) was third (2:00:25).

In the women’s race, Swail, a member of the 2000 U.S Olympic water polo team that won a silver medal in Sydney, Australia, completed the course in 2:11:14. Melanie Holloway (Roswell, Ga.) was second (2:14:14) and Sherry Coons (Los Angeles, Calif.) took third (2:15:05).  Dvorak was the top female finisher from the region, finishing 7th overall in the women’s race.

More than 1,000 age group athletes registered for the event, which was also a qualifier for the 2003 ITU Age Group World Triathlon Championships in New Zealand.
