Both major age group championships for 2002 are beginning to fill. The USA Triathlon National Age Group Qualifier to be held on June 15th in Lake Placid, NY, has close to 300 athletes already registered. The Lake Placid event will qualify athletes for slots on Team USA for the 2002 ITU Triathlon World Championship. That race will be Nov. 9-10 in Cancun, Mexico. The USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship will be held over Labor Day weekend (Aug. 31) in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The Coeur d'Alene race will qualify athletes for Team USA in 2003 to compete in the ITU Queensland World Championship in New Zealand. To date, 96 athletes have registered for this event, which has a very challenging course. Ten slots per age group will be awarded through Coeur d'Alene for the 2003 World Championship.
