“BEST OF THE US” INVITES VIRGINIA’S & D.C.’S BEST TO RACE AT THE
by Jerry MacNeil
“Best of the US” Management and Set-Up Inc. invite the triathletes of Virginia and Washington DC to race at the 2nd annual KINETIC SPRINT / BEST OF THE US VIRGINIA QUALIFIER at Lake Anna State Park near Spotsylvania on April 23. In 2005, DC athletes competed with Maryland athletes.
Virginia was well-represented at the “Best of the US Championship” last year. Michael Harlow and Margie Shapiro, placed 6th in the Fastest State Competition. Harlow, a rising young star, finished 22nd in the men’s race; Shapiro thoroughly dominated the women’s contest, winning by 1:43. Shapiro was later named US Female Triathlete of the Year by USA Triathlon, Inside triathlon, Triathlete and Midwest Events Magazine. After winning the ITU World Championships last fall, Shapiro entered the pro ranks. Though Shapiro will be missed this year, Virginia can still be expected to send a very strong team to Minnesota.
