Center For Innovation

Center for Innovation Receives Third International Honor:

The Center for Innovation’s two technology incubators – Ina Mae Rude Entrepreneur Center and Skalicky Tech Incubator – have been designated as a “Soft Landings International Incubator” by the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) for the third time. The Center for Innovation received initial designation in 2006 plus two, two-year renewals in 2008 and 2010.

The Center for Innovation was one of the first five incubators in the world to secure the designation in 2006, and today there are just 19 incubators out of 5,000 worldwide with the designation and certification. The NBIA designation identifies incubators that provide a “soft landing” to international firms wishing to expand into new markets.

Center for Innovation Named Finalist for International Award:

The Center for Innovation was has been named one of two finalists for the National Business Incubation Association’s (NBIA) 2011 Incubator Innovation Award for its Innovatively Increasing Access to Capital program.

The Innovatively Increasing Access to Capital program aims to improve access to capital for incubator clients and entrepreneurs throughout the state of North Dakota. The Center for Innovation has developed a unique menu of capital options for entrepreneurs, including the nation’s first fully student-run venture fund for early stage ventures, a statewide network of angel investment funds for growth companies, and a program to facilitate foreign direct investment in later-stage companies throughout the region.

Cleantech 2011 Workshop & Action Summit:

Two University of North Dakota-based groups—the Sustainable Energy Research Initiative and Supporting Education (SUNRISE) program and the Center for Innovation—are organizing the Cleantech 2011 Workshop and Action Summit to be held June 19-21 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. Cleantech 2011 is a unique combination of events designed to foster and promote sustainable energy-related technology centers.
