Alex Naastad is a Grand Forks native who after high school decided she wanted to broaden her horizons and she attended Chapman University in southern California.
“Going from Grand Forks to southern California was quite the culture change, it was a completely different lifestyle, but I enjoyed the change because it allowed me to better understand my own culture back here in the Red River Valley,” said Naastad.
Alex studied Economics and International Business at Chapman and was involved in numerous student groups including student government. While attending Chapman, Alex decided she wanted to broaden her experiences and took an international internship and studied abroad for a semester. After traveling around the world Alex took a job in Minneapolis working for a high profile family as the nanny and personal assistant of the household. Alex claims this was one of the most eye opening experiences that she has had.
After attending school in southern California, traveling the world, and living in Minneapolis, Alex found that her desires were back in Grand Forks and decided to enroll in the MBA program at UND. Since enrolling Alex has, without a doubt, taken advantage of numerous opportunities available at UND. Some of the most distinguished things are joining the Dakota Venture Group (DVG), UND’s private equity investment fund, and also chairing and starting a newly updated student group, "Dean’s Cabinet", which will serve as a student advisory council for the administration here at the CoBPA.
Within the DVG, Alex was elected to be 1 of 5 voting members on the Dakota Venture Group’s board.“This is quite an honor and privilege to be able to hold this prestigious yet diligent position,” said Naastad.
Alex is proud to be here at UND and feels that her experience will give her a strong foundation to launch into her career.
