The Marketing Department welcomed two new faculty members this year, including Dr. Brent Baker from the University of South Florida, and Dr. William Martin from Mississippi State University. Dr. Baker teaches in the areas of promotion and professional sales, while Dr. Martin teaches in the areas of brand management and marketing strategy. Both William and Brent had very successful outcomes in the area of research, presenting papers at national and international conferences. Welcome, William and Brent!
The Department successfully completed an important grant project for the check-off organization Northarvest Bean Growers, of Frazee, Minnesota. Drs. Lesch and Askim-Lovseth, working in concert with Ms. Corrine Iverson, Ms. Rachel Lundbohm, along with MBA candidates David Konerza and Kevin Williams designed and launched a new nation-wide nutritional website for dietitians and consumers. This project was one in a series over nearly ten years of involvement with Northarvest. You can check it out at BeanInstitute.com.
Dr. Tangsrud returned in spring, from a Semester Leave undertaken during fall, 2009. Dr. Bateman assumed new responsibilities as Director of the Metz, France, Summer Study Abroad program, recruiting nearly a dozen students to participate in coursework and travel in France and central Europe in June. The Department continues to enjoy steady demand for the major, graduating more than 60 each year. National surveys show entry-level salaries to remain strong, and among the highest in business, averaging nearly $43,000.00 to start. No wonder the Department slogan reads “Marketing – Where Knowledge Meets Opportunity!”
