Top 10 FAQ’s for Learning Advantage

The UGS Learning Advantage is an e-learning portal that provides cost- and time-effective methods for users to gain skills/knowledge of UGS PLM solutions. It contains an unparalleled library of self-paced courses and assessments, as well as management tools for companies to measure learning progress and to administer learning programs. Customers’ interest in it has increased, and the following represent the typical questions they are asking.

Do I have to install something to access Learning Advantage?

No installation required! Learning Advantage is Internet based and can be accessed anytime/anywhere with a standard Internet browser. However, courses in Learning Advantage contain hands-on instructions, so to receive the most value, you should login at a computer that has access to UGS PLM software and run them side-by-side. Note, Learning Advantage does not require a license of UGS PLM software.

Is Learning Advantage easy to use?

Absolutely! Customers who may have experienced a cumbersome course acquisition process in other systems will enjoy the simple navigation and single-click course launch used in Learning Advantage.

What is a membership?

A membership provides a user uninterrupted/annual access to a library of self-paced courses and assessments. Currently, there are three membership options to choose from:

Gold – provides access to the entire library of self-paced courses and assessments.

NX – provides access to the CAD/CAM/CAE library of self-paced courses and assessments.

Teamcenter – provides access to the Teamcenter® family of self-paced courses and assessments.

What is the difference between “individual” and “corporate” memberships?

An “individual” membership is for a person who buys a membership for them self. They must be associated with a company with a valid sold-to ID, and their user ID must be a valid corporate e-mail address. The membership period is 365 days from date of purchase and cannot be transferred to another user.

“Corporate” memberships are for companies who buy memberships for their employees. It includes an administrator account which enables them to self-administrate their users and distribute membership among them. The minimum number of memberships is five. The administrator account can also track users’ usage metrics (login, completion, and assessment records). Membership renewal is co-terminus with their company’s maintenance renewal timing. Volume discounts are available.

If an employee leaves my company, can I block their access to Learning Advantage and transfer their membership to another user? What happens to their records?

Yes, if they have “corporate” memberships. The corporate administrator can “delete” a user, which blocks them from accessing Learning Advantage. When a user is deleted, their records are preserved for tracking/reporting metrics. It is important to note that corporate memberships are flexible and do not require the need to create “generic” accounts. An administrator can “add” users as required and transfer memberships among them.

Is Learning Advantage just CAST online?

No. However, Learning Advantage is similar to CAST in that it includes self-paced NX® software courses. Unlike CAST, Learning Advantage includes Teamcenter, I-deas®, NX® Nastran, Femap®, Solid Edge®, and Tecnomatix® software content. In addition, Learning Advantage courses are specifically designed to run within its Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS tracks and reports course progress, and when re-launched it resumes where you left off. As a convenience, Learning Advantage contains “Recently Opened Courses” to launch any of the last five courses accessed.

In addition, Learning Advantage includes:

Advisors and Assessments – a library of assessments to evaluate your application knowledge and skills. Knowledge Center – a collection of technical documents, articles, and multi-media recordings of product demonstrations.

My Transcript – tracks your learning history.

Enrolled LIVE! Online Courses – provides direct access to the virtual classroom scheduled LIVE! Online events.

How do I access new course versions when they are available? Do I have to install an updated library of courses on my local system?

Memberships provide uninterrupted access to all courses and assessments within the library. As new courses/versions are added, they are automatically listed within the selection menu, and can be launched with a single-click. There is no course maintenance required on your part.

Am I limited by the number of times I can launch a course?

No limit. An active membership provides you on demand access to courses, assessments, and Knowledge Center content.

Is Learning Advantage available outside of North America?

Learning Advantage is Internet-based, so technically it can be accessed from anywhere. However, sales are currently limited to North America. Plans are in place to expand within other global zones. Check with your account representative for the latest status.
