New Teamcenter Solution for “Research Knowledge Management”
New Solution Earns UGS and Procter & Gamble Award for “Best Product Lifecycle Management System for Process R&D and Manufacturing”

Last month, UGS announced a new Teamcenter® solution for “Research Knowledge Management (RKM)” (read the press release). The new RKM solution will be released later this year as a core module of Teamcenter Enterprise.
As reported in a recent Industry Week cover story (read the full article), government funding for laboratory R&D is shrinking as the need for innovation grows. With less focus on the basic discovery step, companies need PLM technology to drive near-term innovations through streamlined processes, best practices and knowledge re-use.

Teamcenter's new solution for Research Knowledge Management changes the way customers manage lab notebook and related data by enabling them to capture and organize multiple types of records in a single, web-based environment. Subsequently, entitled users access it using tools they already understand in an environment that automates best practices.

A recent Consumer Goods Technology article (read the article here), reports how Teamcenter’s RKM development began in the global research laboratory at Procter & Gamble as a way to create an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) that could be easily shared and stored in searchable records-bases. The new RKM solution has already proven its value. Earlier this month, UGS and P&G were honored with the “Best Product Lifecycle Management System for Process R&D and Manufacturing” award at the ELNS & Laboratory Informatics 2006 conference in London.

Working closely together, P&G helped UGS define requirements and add new capabilities to its existing Teamcenter Enterprise solution. As a result, Teamcenter’s new RKM offering will enable scientists to quickly determine if a particular experiment has already been conducted by a colleague and, if so, allow them to easily view the results and conclusions.

By eliminating the need to repeat experiments that have already been done to satisfaction, Teamcenter’s RKM solution enables scientists to proceed to the next innovation. This leads to increased research productivity, reduced direct costs, reduced research infrastructure costs, maximized intellectual property and streamlined compliance management activities.

Teamcenter’s new RKM solution will be generally available in December 2006. For more information, including a product fact sheet, visit the RKM page in the Consumer Products industry on ugs.com. Find out how Research Knowledge Management can improve your company’s R&D performance.
