INCREASE YOUR PROFITS WITH CELL PHONE RECYCLING
An opportunity for Wireless Retailers to increase revenues
by Conrad Melancon - Director of Business Development, RMS Communications
As reported by Inform Inc., a non-profit independent research organization, by the end of 2005, about 130 million cellular telephone handsets will be retired each year in the US. It is estimated the national total for stockpiled cell phones may reach 500 million units by the end of this year. It is also estimated that nationally less than 5% of all unused cell phones are collected and processed for re-use and recycling. This means that approximately 65,000 tons of waste is going to be generated annually by people replacing their current handsets. Cell phones contain toxic chemicals and wastes which id not properly disposed of may leak into our groundwater and cause serious harm to the environment. In 2004 California became the first state in the Nation to address this growing concern by passing the Cell Phone Recycling Act of 2004 (AB 2901). This landmark legislation mandates that as of the middle of 2006 ALL companies which sell cellular phones in the state must offer a no-cost easy to use take-back program for consumers. Additionally, the law requires retailers to post signs in each of their locations, advertise take-back programs and make sure consumers are aware of the program when they shop. Numerous other states are now considering similar legislation. TracPoint Wireless has teamed up with RecycleforUS.com. This program provides a reclamation and revenue generating program for dealers and agents throughout the United States. When you collect used phones and send them to us we will pay you their re-marketable value. This currently ranges from $1.00 to more than $150.00. We pay for more than 500 different handsets. All phones collected through this program are either resold to extend their useful life, donated to law enforcement or shelters to provide emergency communications, or recycled. Our recycling partner is a Founding Member of the IAER became the first company to achieve certification to the IAER electronics recycling standard in addition to the ISO 9000 & 14001 international standards. It’s our goal to implement a broad reaching program which uses state of the art methods to maximize cellular phone collection efforts while staying committed to the highest environmental standards of excellence.
As a Program Participant You Receive * Free website links, logo’s and other collateral materials * Online supply reordering and free shipping * Listing on the website as a drop-off location (if desired) * The ability to add or change users and drop-off locations * Free shipping for all phones collected * Program promotional ideas and assistance * Online reporting for all collection activities to include numbers of phones collected and revenue generated by location In return for the above, we simply ask that you promote the program to your employees, respective communities or business partners. Word of mouth, promotion in local media, staging recycling events, placement of the RecycleforUS.com logo on your website, asking for the customer’s old phone when you sell them a new service or upgrade their phone, and placing collection boxes in your stores are all good ways to generate awareness for the program. Benefits:
Consumers * Now have an easy way to dispose of their old cell phones * Can receive money for their old cell phones or help organizations raise funds for their programs * Can help the environment by responsibly disposing their old cell phones Collecting Organizations * Can participate in a unique and comprehensive cell phone collection program – at No cost! * Raise funds for much needed programs in their organization, business or community * Help cut down on cell phone waste by collecting phones which can be resold to extend their useful life * Help provide emergency communications to those in need by collecting phones which support our 911
Emergency phone bank program * Help the environment by promoting cell phone collection efforts and keeping old handsets out of our landfills The bottom line is that no matter who you are or what organization you represent, by participating in the RecycleforUS.com program, you help a great many causes generate revenues at the same time – what could be better than that?
