Carl H. Ferguson, Program Development Specialist, for the Land Information Access Association in Traverse City has agreed to share some information with you about a W.K. Kellogg Foundation-funded visual enhancement project that is currently underway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  Roadway and community enhancement projects can go a long way towards creating tourist-friendly destinations.

SMART GROWTH RESEARCH
The Tourism Resource Center at Michigan State University is teaming with Planning and Zoning Center, Inc. (PZC) of Lansing to investigate how land development professionals can increase the implementation of “smart growth” principles in Michigan.  The project is funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s People and Land Program and is entitled, Overcoming Impediments to Smart Growth: Finding Ways for Land Development Professionals to Help Achieve Sustainability.

1ST MICHIGAN TOURISM INVESTMENT FORUM

The Tourism Resource Center and The School of Hospitality Business at MSU are co-hosting the first annual Michigan Tourism Investment Forum on May 26-27, 2004, at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan.  The purpose of this 1-½ day event is to help stimulate tourism-related investments by increasing the investment community’s awareness of the many development opportunities available in Michigan.  The Forum will feature panel discussions and presentations on topics of importance to the tourism development and investment community, presented by industry leaders from both the private and public sectors.
